Hello to all the members of this community and lovers of drawing! After spending a while showing you my latest digital drawings, it's time to share some that I've done in the traditional style, more specifically using watercolors. For me, these drawing practices are important because I've wanted to illustrate desserts for a long time, and on the other hand, I was terribly afraid of watercolors. While I still have a lot to improve, I feel like I'm no longer afraid of using watercolors, and that motivates me to continue 😌

Has it ever happened to you that you save thousands of photos as "reference" on your phone and just can't remember them? Every now and then, I go through my gallery, where I also categorize the images depending on how I intend to use them. You can't imagine the number of images and photographs of desserts I have. There are so many that I didn't know where to start, haha. The drawing I'm about to show you, I got the image on Facebook or Pinterest... I'm not sure. It was a long time ago! 😆

This is a scene of a strawberry cake served with tea on a plaid blanket. I love the image; I find it tender and delicious. As a strawberry lover, I had to paint it. I used a mechanical pencil to make the drawing, and the watercolors I use are inexpensive ones. When it came to painting, I started with light tones, focusing on the sponge cakes with some mustard-colored paint diluted in water.

I remember the first time I used watercolors, it was a total disaster 😆 I only made a couple of drawings, but even though they look rough, I really liked them. I've saved them, so I hope to show them to you sometime.

When it came to painting the strawberries, I started with a very diluted red, then added more intense shades. For the shadows, I used a bit of blue because I wasn't convinced I'd use black. I shaded the pie crust with mustard, and while I was doing so, I imagined its flavor. Haha, it's torture to paint such a sweet scene without having something to satisfy the craving 😆 Especially if you're a strawberry lover like me 🍓

As for the floral details on the plates, I decided to keep it as simple as possible. I figure that at my level of watercolor use, the last thing I need is to get frustrated painting such small and elaborate things. After all, my goal wasn't to create the exact image, but rather something similar and enjoy the process.

When I didn't know what else to do with watercolors, I used wooden crayons to add more depth to the drawing through shading. I added some white details in the cream using a white-out pen, but I would have been better off using acrylic paint.

As you can see, it's not a faithful representation of the reference image, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. With these practices, I hope not only to improve my drawing, but also to de-stress and gain a greater degree of patience that will allow me to properly dedicate myself to more complicated drawings. But everything has its process, so I'm proud of this small and delicious step I've taken with this illustration 🍰

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes del dibujo! Luego de un rato mostrándoles mis últimos dibujos en digital, ha llegado el momento de mostrarles algunos que he elaborado al estilo tradicional, más específicamente utilizando acuarelas. Para mí, estas prácticas de dibujo son importantes, porque desde hacía mucho tiempo, quería ilustrar postres y por otro lado, le tenía muchísimo miedo a la acuarela. Si bien, aún me falta mucho por mejorar, siento que ya no tengo temor de usar la acuarela y eso, me motiva a continuar 😌

¿No les ha pasado que guardan miles de fotos como "referencia" en el teléfono y no se acuerdan de ellas? De vez en cuando, hago una revisión de mi galería en donde también voy catalogando las imágenes dependiendo del uso que quiero darles. No se imaginan la cantidad de imágenes y fotografías de postres tengo. Son tantas que no sabía por donde empezar jaja El dibujo que les mostraré, conseguí la imagen en Facebook o en Pinterest... no estoy segura ¡Fue hace mucho tiempo! 😆

Se trata de una escena de un pastel de fresa servido junto con té, sobre una manta a cuadros. Me encanta la imagen, me parece tierna y deliciosa. Como amante de las fresas, tenía que pintarla. Utilicé un portaminas para hacer el dibujo y las acuarelas que utilizo, son las económicas que se consiguen a bajo costo. A la hora de pintar, comencé con los tonos claros, enfocándome en el bizcocho de los pasteles con algo de puntura color mostaza muy diluida en agua.

Recuerdo que la primera vez que usé acuarelas, fue un total desastre 😆 Hice sólo un par de dibujos, pero aunque se ven toscos, me gustaron mucho. Los tengo guardados, así que espero mostrárselos en alguna oportunidad.

A la hora de pintar las fresas, comencé con el rojo muy diluido, para luego, irlo añadiendo en tonos más intensos. Para las sombras, utilicé algo de azul, porque no me convencía usar el negro. Con el color mostaza, sombreé la corteza de pastel y mientras lo hacía, me imaginaba su sabor jaja es una tortura pintar una escena tan dulce sin tener algo con lo que apaciguar el antojo 😆 Sobre todo si eres amante de las fresas como yo 🍓

En cuanto a los detalles florales de los platos, decidí simplificarlo lo más posible. Considero que en mi nivel de uso de acuarelas, lo menos que necesito es frustrarme pintando cosas tan pequeñas y elaboradas jaja después de todo, mi idea no era elaborar la imagen exacta, sino algo parecido y disfrutar del proceso.

Cuando no supe que más hacer con las acuarelas, utilicé los crayones de madera para darle mayor profundidad al dibujo a través del sombreado. Algunos detalles en blanco de la crema, los hice utilizando un corrector, pero mejor hubiera usado pintura acrílica.

Como pueden ver, no se trata de una representación fiel de la imagen de referencia, pero estoy muy satisfecha con cómo quedó. Con estas prácticas espero, no sólo mejorar mi dibujo, sino también desestresarme, así como obtener un mayor grado de paciencia que me permita dedicarme como debe ser a dibujos más complicados. Pero, todo tiene su proceso, así que, me siento orgullosa de este pequeño y delicioso pasito que he dado con esta ilustración 🍰
