His family bible is open but never read, without any answers to prayer he no longer wants to be holy.

An Old Old Story by @beginningtoend is timely, in that it explores the experiences of veterans shortly after Memorial Day in the US. This is not your cheesy "thank you for your service" piece, however- this one has hidden depths that will make you want to explore it's darkness just one more time, especially in light of the included art piece. Beginningtoend is absolutely a steemian to follow if you appreciate good poetry and artwork on the blockchain.

"Tart" was not a compliment when Dad dug into a rhubarb custard that didn't have enough sugar. Tart was a lemon; used cars that were unreliable were lemons.

You Little Tart by @carolkean is a clever freewrite that plays on the word "tart" and the relationship between mother and daughter.

I knew he was coming. I'd heard a loud stream of curses coming from his barren yard just as I was pulling a strawberry rhubarb tart out of the oven.

Tart by @owasco makes masterful use of tension in this short piece- it won't take you long, so that will give you an opportunity to read the other pieces that led to it. I love her more subtle use of the prompt, as well as her thoughtful reflection about the freewrite as a learning process.

what does starlight tell us? about dim stars when crescent moon astray on the corner of your lips sleepless, lulled by the embrace of our sin

Sorry, I'm So Sorry by @ayahkasih has such a strong start, with the lovely personification of the stars and moon. By the end, the speaker's regret is palpable.

Chapter after chapter after chapter! Eliza threw the book across the room. When I signed up for this, I didn’t expect to be reading all this junk! She thought as she covered her head with her hands. She wanted to lie down on the bed and go to sleep, but she was already on the bed.

Chapters to Adventure by @ntowl creates an entire world in such a short piece of text- I immediately recognized the main character, and enjoyed her sass.
