I am amazed at the height that the Lemongrass that I grew from seed became. It is the first time I actually got a lot to harvest. I found this video on You Tube for " Growing, Harvesting & Using Lemongrass" which was so useful, and I learned how to make these wands for cooking.
This was one large clump in the pepper bed that I cut back. I sat on the porch with the bundle next to me after allowing it to wilt slightly for one day. The leaves have very sharp edges, and the wilting makes handling the stalks much easier.
I think I did a pretty good job making these wands for the first time. My hand was tired from wrapping so many at one time. I still have another large clump of Lemongrass to harvest this week after the rain stops. I plan on drying some of it for tea, plus saving some of the thicker stalks for thin slices for recipes. It apparently freezes nicely so this will be great to have on hand.
Beet Greens
I had picked some of the nicer beet greens from the garden earlier.
I like to sauté onions, garlic, and add red wine vinegar once the greens start wilting. This is one of my husband's favorite ways to eat them.
Poblano Peppers
I found a few nice sized Poblano Peppers that were ready to pick earlier this week. They got steamed and stuffed with beef, onion, rice, and tomato sauce for dinner. Dang they were tasty, and I had enough for a freezer meal too.
All of my favorite Hosta's are in full bloom and smell so wonderful next to the porch. The bees and the hummingbirds have been enjoying them as much as I have.
Today is supposed to bring on a series of severe thunderstorms, so I will have to go out and pick any tomatoes that are ripening before that happens. I may just have enough ripe ones to can a batch of sauce for the pantry. Another busy day ahead.
