I have finally emptied the entire greenhouse and planted all the flowers and vegetables. Take a walk with me as I share what's blooming in my garden scape.
The Bradford Pear is just magnificent in full bloom at the base of one of the gardens alongside the front lawn.
The western side of my home is lined entirely with shade gardens due to two trees that have grown so large that all the sun-loving plants had to be moved to the butterfly garden. Once the leaves leaf out on the trees it becomes very shady. I planted a lot of Impatiens underneath the Kousa Dogwood which should be very pretty this summer.
This week some of the Dwarf Iris plants bloomed amidst the Rock Cress. Yet some of them are still forming the buds and should open later this weekend.
My favorite Lilac has bloomed this week while the purple varieties are finishing. I'm going to have to saw a large limb off it that died over the winter. So sad, as it is a major part of the tree.
These plants, the carpet Phlox and Aubrieta look so pretty at the edges of some of the rock gardens. It's too bad that they don't flower throughout the entire summer.
I had one Corydalis come back next to a Hosta near the back porch step. I adore the buds at this stage on the Burgandy Tree Peony just before it is about to open.
I planted all the Impatiens among the Hosta and ferns that surround the back porch. It won't be long before they fill in an put on a show for the summer. The Nasturtium and lettuce hanging baskets have filled out nicely and it is time to enjoy a nice fresh salad.
I really love the deep red color on this lettuce. Meanwhile I have harvested a third round of spinach from the tower gardens. The parsley and herbs are starting to get large enough to use some of them as well.
The spinach was washed, dried, and vacuum-sealed for the freezer.
These towers are on the corner of the porch offering quick access to the herbs. Once the spinach is done, I will sow something different that can grow in them or just put them away until next year.
The Cabbages in the large, raised bed have doubled in size this week. Not surprising considering all the rain we've had lately.
In the butterfly garden, the Camassia Lilies are in full bloom, also known as wild Hyacinthe. Next to them are Cosmos which I am hoping will bloom throughout the summer for the butterflies to enjoy.
My bleeding hearts came back sparse this year. Perhaps the plants are getting too old. I have had them for over 25 years now, maybe they will self-seed this year. I do love seeing them every spring.
Thank you for joining me for this week's #gardening update. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
