Surfguru continues on this path of becoming an increasingly impactful business with your help. Learn how we cared for the oceans in 2022 and impacted our community.

With a lot of aloha vibe and pride, we announce that this is already our third annual impact report. Since 2020, we have been donating 10% of PRO subscription revenues to care for the oceans and to support projects that use surfing as a tool for social inclusion, among several other initiatives. All this in favor of our greatest temple, the sea, and future generations, always with your help.

We faced some challenges in the last year, some expected, others not. But even so, we managed in the best possible way to ensure that we were riding the wave of the series and surfing this wave with great intensity and naturalness.

We started with small steps in 2020 (see the 2020 impact report here), advanced a lot in 2021 (see the 2021 impact report here), and now, in 2022, we keep everything stable, but with some news.

Would you like to check? It is always good to point out that we strive to be transparent with our community and partners in this report. If you were a PRO subscriber, exchange partner, or advertiser on our website, know that all this would not be possible without you!

Surfguru Embassies

To recap, last year, we established (and affectionately called) Surfguru "embassies" in Brazil so that we could guide the allocation of our impact fund resources. Are they:

In the state of Rio de Janeiro: - VUSS Project - Vivendo um Sonho Surf (Living a Surf Dream) (Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro) - Saquarema Surf Association (Saquarema)

In the state of Espírito Santo: - Regência Surf Association (Vila de Regência, Linhares) - Vigilantes da Foz Project ("Doce River Mouth Guards") (Vila de Regência, Linhares)

In the state of Pernambuco: - NGO TPM - Todas para o mar ("All for the Sea") (Maracaípe) - NGO Onda Limpa ("Clean Wave") (Cabo de Santo Agostinho) - Noronha Surf and Skate School (Fernando de Noronha)

Among the various activities we support are beach cleanups, board repair workshops, board donations, campaigns, etc. In some of these events/projects, we help with direct funds; for others, we support with publicity and in several other ways. Let'sLet's check it out in more detail!

Allocation of funds from the Surfguru Impact Fund to campaigns, causes, and projects

How do we use the Surfguru Impact Fund grant?

We followed the same line of reasoning that we used last year: to apply the allocation of the impact fund budget, trying to distribute it according to the needs of each Project or cause. We seek to understand the pain of each one of them and contribute to these points so that everyone benefits more profitably.

- Monthly contributions with Route 1%

01. ROUTE 1%.jpg 1% of surfguru's revenue goes to the oceans

Surfguru always wants to do more for the oceans. For this reason, we joined forces with the ROUTE Brasil Institute, which since 2011 has acted as an engagement route for the preservation of the oceans and for the solution of systemic problems related to human consumption.

In this union, we allocate 1% of our entire monthly revenue to Route Brasil, and this investment is strategically applied to beach cleaning actions, the promotion of environmental education in various Brazilian communities, and the generation of initiatives that work with the well-being of nature and society. In exchange, we receive bags and gloves used in multiple beach cleaning actions we support.

In January 2022, Vila de Regência, famous for its magic tubes in the north of ES, was affected by heavy rains, which left local residents with limited access to transport, clean water, and food. To help, we donate an amount referring to 10 food parcels to support the most needy families.

- Financial support for the organization and execution of a surfboard repair workshop for children from the VUSS - Vivendo um Sonho Surf (RJ) and TPM - Todos para o Mar projects (PE)

04. oficina conserto pahnchas tpm.jpeg

Last year, in the expectation of promoting the surf activities promoted by VUSS and TPM, the best way to help would be to repair the boards that the institutions already had.

To make institutions more independent in this sense, we found a better solution. We helped promote surfboard repair workshops so the project members, children, and teenagers could learn how to do it independently. That way, we entered with all the necessary material so that the workshop could be given.

💲Total amount allocated by Surfguru: BRL 800.00 (BRL 400.00 for each institution)

- Donation of soft boards to the SurfSkate Noronha project - PE

05. surfskate noronha.jpeg

Every year the Surfguru team, who work remotely, try to get together somewhere with high waves to enjoy some surf and nature. In March 2022, we went to Noronha and got to know the SurfSkate Noronha project up close, which uses surfing and skateboarding as a tool for social inclusion and serves several children and adolescents on the island. Our biggest action so far (and the hardest, haha) was donating 5 soft boards to the Project.

In this action, we donated 3 boards, and Maré Pranchas donated 2 more soft boards. Check out the full article here.

💲Total amount allocated by Surfguru: BRL 3442.01

- Other actions carried out on the island of Fernando de Noronha during the immersion of the Surfguru team.

Safe Tourism Guide in Noronha

In addition to donating soft boards to the surf school SurfSkate Noronha, we tried to bring other services to the island. One of them was preparing a small safe tour guide in Noronha, with tips and instructions on how to enjoy the island in the safest and most ecologically correct way possible. For this, we produce stickers with a QR code that leads to the page, where it is possible to view the guide online. Consult the guide here!

Surfguru beach umbrella donations to the community

In addition to releasing PRO subscriptions for members, we also promoted an open forecasting class for the community of Noronha.

The coin was launched in June/2022, the week of World Oceans Day. It was created and designed by Surfguru and Route Brasil through the tools and methodology of the Cambiatus platform - @cambiatus2022, which uses open-source and blockchain technology. To keep the community active, we contribute monthly to the Cambiatus platform. Learn more about in this article.

Supported actions - support for other projects and causes

In what different ways do we support projects and causes during 2022?

Here we help in as many ways as possible. In the "lack" of money, we try to find other solutions and intervene in different ways to help other causes.

- Beach cleaning action with Vigilantes da Foz in Regência - ES.

In January/2022, the Vigilantes group from Foz do Rio Doce promoted a beach cleaning action in Regência, ES, and we donated bags and gloves so that the cleaning could be carried out.

- Beach cleaning action at Praia da Costa in Vila Velha, ES - World Oceans Day - Abraço Route.

In June/2022, on World Oceans Day, Route Brasil promoted its famous "Abraço" event in Rio de Janeiro. Our team present at ES decided to make a small edition of the event at Praia da Costa in Vila Velha. We also collaborated with donating bags and gloves so that cleaning could occur.

- Beach cleaning action in celebration of the 10th anniversary of Salvemos São Conrado - RJ

dez anos salvemos sao conrado anderson guerreira foto.jpg

In August 2022, the Salvemos São Conrado Foundation, which has been fighting and inspiring people to preserve their beaches, celebrated its 10 years of existence with a beautiful party on the beach of São Conrado for the community and a great beach cleaning action. On that occasion, we partnered with Hortfruti, which completed the breakfast table with fruit juices and salads.

- World Beach Cleanup Day

In 2022, World Beach Cleaning Day was celebrated on September 17, with several actions along the entire Brazilian coast. To reach as many people as possible, we made a page with information about beach cleaning actions that would take place on the Brazilian coast (with dates and locations) to be disseminated throughout our community, helping people find the nearest action so they could help. Take a look here.

Some of our partners and institutions that we support jumped on this bandwagon and did their part. Take a look at the results:

Surfskate Noronha, Fernando de Noronha - PE The Project was responsible for cleaning the beaches of Cachorro, Meio, and Conceição. Participants: 50 Amount of garbage collected: 26kg

Saquarema Surf Association, Saquarema - RJ Surfguru
