Little Things, Big Meaning — My Love Language of Giving

There are many ways that people show and receive love. Some people like to hear sweet words, others prefer spending time together, and some value simple acts of service. For me, I realized that the way I understand and feel love the most is through gifts. It may sound materialistic at first, but for me, gifts are not about money or size. They are about the thought, the memory, and the reminder that someone cared enough to give me something. ![Minimalist Simple Modern Photo Collage Instagram Post_20250925_230639_0000.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/Eq7PPVsMzXAPoDUqCJ6e23p2f8Y7QtgUMDcHZ8LY29R9zdn9hCLjvMdR6yZJ2FVffSs.png) Growing up, I have always been so excited whenever birthdays, Christmas, and holidays came around because those were the moments when I knew I could receive gifts. Those special occasions felt magical to me, not just because of the celebration itself but because of the surprises waiting for me. ![Messenger_creation_208213238889311.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23u6DdhiYGxgwLPCsjuHtedu32K3FmouzjAXUXCmvfVHTqaossyw39EhGBkS1FzHnUgGz.jpeg) ![FB_IMG_1758807981464.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23z7L4u95f1t9cwHZWjhgX6rZSkqDGoeK11RKDRP3Un23APqxBnrXCxHgJH1mKyEH4hvk.jpg) I remember counting the days before my birthday or before Christmas morning, feeling that thrill inside me, imagining what could be inside the wrapped boxes. I would be delighted to open a gift, whether it was small or big. The size of the gift never really mattered because the joy of unwrapping something that was carefully wrapped for me already made me feel loved and happy. ![Messenger_creation_F167B40A-FAA8-4FA1-A3C5-1B0DB0346CD8.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23yJJkAN6cdk83JfupGLGAKqSfr2fMn8VP33wEf8y8tHYqcaBaXbBpPa51aQTKT3pD6AL.jpeg) Back then, I never really thought about why gifts meant so much to me, but as time passed by, I started to realize that this became part of who I am. It became something that I understood as my love language. Receiving gifts was never just about having new things. It was about the thought and effort behind them. To me, every gift was a reminder of the person who gave it, and every time I looked at it, I felt remembered and loved. That realization made me hold on even tighter to the things I was given.

As I grew older, I noticed that this love language started to reflect in the way I treated my own relationships. Whether it was with my family, my friends, or people who were close to me, I always wanted to give something to them. Whenever I had extra money, I found myself using it to buy small things that reminded me of someone. ![Messenger_creation_517B6258-550C-40F6-B772-6DEC5935621C.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23xVMJd7h95sEsw1pzF2d74LVoPqSRgDtvJHQExZ9t4GbArkMojZpeqsFsZVHEDNTh7yq.jpeg) ![Messenger_creation_1036395261026228.jpeg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23yTjYvoR9yufQDd9rj7AuW37sDnBSgs2utPR4MwhuSuwaV5QdJDP5ZA32vf75Uembh94.jpeg) I never thought of it as a waste because for me, gifts were not about their price or value in money. What mattered was the thought behind them and the joy that came with giving. It has always been my way of showing care and love. I believe that when I give something, I am also giving a piece of myself and my memory of that person. It might be simple, but it is very meaningful for me. ![Messenger_creation_7BA4D15A-D744-4373-90D4-52F6CF66C9FC.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23zkhxXk7Tq4wXq8j2apdSuxPcXf5EEEh79VwJXPmFPTJsReMgS26NHXUVsV47viZzGZE.png) What makes me even happier is that I do not give because I expect something in return. I give because it makes me feel fulfilled to see others happy with what I share with them. Their smiles and their reactions become the best gift back to me. It is like their joy reflects on me, and I end up feeling as excited as they do. Sometimes I even feel like I am more excited than the person receiving it.

The only funny part about this is that I am always labeled as someone who is terrible at keeping surprises. Whenever I buy something for someone, I get too excited to give it, and I always end up telling them right away instead of waiting for the right moment. I just cannot help it because the thought of keeping it a secret is too hard when I want to see their happiness as soon as possible. ![Screenshot_20250925_205742_Instagram.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23tvgehBcBJao9sYEungo1wJAWhWbVosNwhSSKm425snrbRpSAUzPykUWyfbtu1FKdq63.jpg) When people give me gifts, no matter how small or simple they may seem, I treat them as something very special. I have always been a sentimental person, so I never look at gifts for their size or their price. Instead, I see them as symbols of effort, care, and love. ![Screenshot_20250925_205847_Instagram.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23yJJhKS6DMZYFS67je8no4bpKSPPppGpfn5S2VywaarncfoJLePPquPJtscCj2fAYnRC.jpg) A gift for me is not just an object, it is a message that says, I thought of you. That is why I take care of every little thing I receive. It could be a letter, a keychain, or even a small snack. I will always value it because I know that someone remembered me enough to give me something. These small gifts carry memories with them, and those memories are what I hold on to. ![Messenger_creation_76DD51F4-5C83-4EE0-B3D0-1E2F7811B383.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23xVKMs3ruS9KSpK6RSRwXfNsg8YrG7VxHkQnMp3tJP4ZcNSyfmAzEsWVoLCeh1dW6bZL.png) Receiving random gifts like these truly makes my heart happy in ways that are hard to explain. It feels like a spark that warms me inside and reminds me that I am valued. Maybe this is also the reason why I continue to give as much as I can. Because I know the happiness that comes from being remembered, I want to give the same feeling to others. It does not take much to make someone feel appreciated, and sometimes the simplest things mean the most. ![Messenger_creation_641F787F-E134-4A93-9DB6-31333375576E.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23uFYA1f8haHcQxBqcMZ5jvXtymRWri1qgN5TQeoMo2EFH2UP8o6eUkYggR2b8NmuEeeS.png) Looking back, I realize that for me, gift giving is more than just about the presents themselves. It is about the connection that is built through those little acts of giving and receiving. Every time I receive something, I am reminded of love and thoughtfulness. Every time I give something, I am expressing my care in a way that words cannot always describe. Gifts might look like objects to others, but to me, they are full of meaning and memories that stay for a long time. ![Screenshot_20250925_205934_Instagram.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23wCEJQLfs3XKkTBR9EMTHnsG64zNka3gFcQ8gme26yDjvWf2PLAU5F5AqvPp8kyYvYBU.jpg) ![Screenshot_20250925_215640_Instagram.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/sylvarae/23x1DUJPm9GXsLrbWzjAkhvw5hGWpvXyB3ef6ka2koMEXCRwgUnGbR6wRoqgzVQG2QfKn.jpg) I know that I will always carry this part of me wherever I go. I will continue to give gifts because it is my way of loving, and I will continue to treasure every single thing given to me because it reminds me of the people who care for me. Whether it is big or small, expensive or simple, a gift will always hold a place in my heart. And maybe that is what makes it so special, not the item itself but the love that comes with it.
