Today is still a special day to talk about horror movies, and since it's Halloween —at least in my Venezuelan time zone —it's still a day for terror. And I want to take this opportunity to talk to you about this magnificent film. A classic from '97 with Al Pacino, Keanu Reeves, and Charlize Theron. Today I'm going to talk to you about The Devil's Advocate. I usually watch some horror movies on this day; I really like this genre, especially those that combine psychological and supernatural horror. And what better example of excellence than this film from the nineties? I'm also a lawyer, and a very good one, so I identify with Keanu's character; I always like to win and be right.

Y qué mejor ejemplo de excelencia que esta película de los años noventa, además también soy abogado y uno muy bueno, por lo que me identifico con el personaje de Keanu, siempre me gusta ganar y tener la razón.***

I really like this movie because of Al Pacino's impeccable performance. Who better than him to play the Devil? His acting was so good that even today, his gestures and piercing gaze still terrify me. Keanu Reeves also delivers a memorable performance, playing a talented lawyer driven by his ego and his desire to win and achieve greater success in his career. You could say everything is rosy with his new job, but in this life, we must recognize that everything comes at a price.

Charlize Theron is equally compelling. Her character's evolution unfolds majestically. It's through her that we see Keanu's human side; she's the one who keeps him grounded in his spirit and heart. However, he only achieves so much success because this exceptional lawyer, surrounded by overnight success and having his dream opportunity so easily, neglects everything else to hone his career, forgetting love, matters of the heart, and, of course, his beautiful wife.

I also really like how the religious theme is handled in this film; seeing Al Pacino defying God in his own home is an unforgettable scene. The philosophical themes this character explores also make him iconic and make you reflect on them. It's one of those films that makes you question your faith and the price you'd be willing to pay to make your dreams come true. And despite the film's age and the fact that its special effects are visibly dated, giving it a somewhat strange aesthetic at times, I still think it's worth watching.

The blend of supernatural and psychological horror is handled excellently throughout the film. Each character stands out thanks to the distinctive performances of these great actors, who I believe marked a turning point in horror cinema. And I dare say, based on my cinephile knowledge, that although the devil had been portrayed before this film's release, the representation of that entity hasn't been as iconic and impactful to transcend time as the performances given by Al Pacino and Peter Stormare in Constantine, both accompanied by the talent of Keanu Reeves.
