Phone Photography: Summer walks by the fountains

Greetings friends, I was reading the feed a few days ago and saw information about the Phone Photography Contest. I was immediately interested, it seems to me that already in a few years there has been a real revolution in photography: for a significant number of subjects and situations the smartphone is even better suited than a DSLR. I use my smartphone most of the time for photography - after all, it's what I carry in my pocket on a daily basis. That's why I immediately decided to take part in this contest, especially since this contest is organized by a community I'm subscribed to but haven't posted in for a long time - Feel Good community.

So, what makes me feel good on a hot summer day? Of course, it's the fountains! So I suggest you to take a virtual walk around the city with me, moving from one fountain to another. I started this walk near one of the oldest city fountains. The granite bowl is placed in a small garden near the Kazan Cathedral. In the old days, this fountain served as a drinker for horses. Now it is also sometimes a drinker, but not for horses, but for feathered city dwellers. The second fountain is located in the courtyard of the Hermitage Museum. On the edge of this fountain there is a wooden ladder - I do not know exactly, but it seems that such ladders help birds to approach the water.

The fountains in the Summer Garden look as if they have been decorating this place for centuries, but in fact they were built only a few years ago. The fountains decorated the Summer Garden in the 18th century, but after a severe flood the water supply system was destroyed, the fountains were dismantled, and for the next centuries there were no fountains in the garden. It was just a beautiful garden with old trees, a corner of peace and rest from worries in the center of the city. A few years ago, during archaeological excavations, the remains of those old fountains were found, and new fountains were built on the same spot.

The next fountain is the frog fountain in Nikolsky Garden. It is a real magnet for children who play in the garden.

The next fountain in this selection is the fountain in Rumyantsevsky Garden. Two cast iron two-tiered fountains of the XIX century are installed symmetrically in the western and eastern parts of the garden, benches are installed around the fountains. I sat down on one of these benches for the sake of rest, and enjoyed both the coolness and watching the educational process: the Academy of Arts is located in the neighboring building, and the painting lesson was held in the fresh air that day.

Meanwhile, the day was drawing towards evening and it was time to end the walk. There is another fountain very close by, and we will come to it at the end of our walk. The fountain in the courtyard of the University is one of the youngest fountains of our city. It was opened in honor of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg University last year. It is very fortunate that it is already evening - because the illumination works only in the evening. The water jets are successively painted in different colors. On one of the benches sits a St. Petersburg student - a bronze figure made after drawings by sculptor Roman Shustrov.
