Our Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Day Camp at Buhawen Elementary School was one of the most memorable and exciting experiences of the school year. Filled with fun, learning, and teamwork, the event truly showcased the spirit of scouting. From sunrise, the school grounds were alive with scouts ready to learn, lead, and explore skills that would shape them into better individuals.

The day began with the flag ceremony, where scouts proudly folded the flag and recited the Scout Oath and Law. This simple but meaningful tradition reminded everyone of their duty. As the flag was raised, the atmosphere was filled with pride and unity—an excellent start to a day dedicated to discipline, leadership, and camaraderie.

After the opening ceremony, scouts joined leadership training, learning the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and communication. Facilitators led inspiring talks and activities showing how to be good leaders and reliable followers, reminding everyone that leadership is about inspiring others and leading by example.

One of the most useful parts of the camp was first aid training. Scouts practiced cleaning and bandaging pretend wounds, carrying 'injured' teammates on stretchers made from clothes and bamboo, and learned when to ask for help. Each scout took turns being both the helper and the patient, helping everyone stay calm in emergencies.

Another exciting skill they learned was hand signals, which are important for silent communication outdoors. Scouts practiced signals for moving forward, stopping, warning about obstacles, and asking for help during a pretend hike on the playground. Leaders watched and helped correct each signal, making the session fun and useful.

For lashing, scouts worked in teams of four, using ropes and sticks to build items such as tripods for cooking pots, simple clotheslines, and a small flagpole. Each group was timed as they built, which encouraged good teamwork and careful knot-tying. At the end, they tested the tripods by placing weights on them to see if they were strong enough.

Team games included a water relay, where scouts raced to fill buckets , and a puzzle challenge in which teams put together map pieces while blindfolded, listening only to their teammates' instructions. These fast games helped everyone work together and plan, filling the school grounds with laughter and cheers.

One of the best parts was the obstacle course, which had rope-crawling under benches, balancing on thin wooden planks, jumping over low hurdles, and climbing a small wall made from gym mats. Scouts cheered as their teammates finished each part.

Getting through each stage taught everyone not to give up and to help each other of learning and physical activities, it was finally time for one of the most-awaited parts of the camp—the roasting of chicken. The scouts gathered around in groups, preparing their own food using traditional methods. They cleaned, seasoned, and roasted the chicken over an open fire using bamboo sticks. The smell of grilled chicken filled the air, making everyone excited. It was not just about cooking; it was about cooperation, patience, and the enjoyment of the fruits of teamwork. Sharing the meal together after a long and productive day made it even more special.

As the sun began to set, everyone gathered for the closing ceremony. The scouts reflected on what they had learned throughout the day—leadership, discipline, cooperation, and resilience. They also expressed their gratitude to the teachers, scout leaders, and organizers who made the event possible. The experience left a mark on every participant’s heart, reminding them that being a scout means being ready to serve, lead, and help others.

The Day Camp at Buhawen Elementary School was more than just fun—it was a journey of growth. Scouts left with new lessons, stronger bonds, and a deeper sense of responsibility.
