Hello everyone in the hiveghana community, it’s my pleasure to participate once again in this week’s prompt. As usual, all of the topics are captivating and interesting. However, this prompt seems captivating to me, hence my thoughts on the topic.
I started falling in love with cats as a child. This might be a result of having cats in our home. This however, might not be true because we also had dogs. As a child, I had experiences with those two domestic animals, and I can say that cats are friendly animals. As a child, I remember trying to play with a puppy and he eventually bit my leg, but this never happened with cats. Cats are not just friendly, they are also homely. I describe cats as the neatest animal on earth. No matter how complicated a situation is, cats will always hide their faeces. Also, other destructive animals cannot survive where cats are around. A typical example is a rat. Rats are destructive animals that should not be found around homes and important facilities. As destructive as they are, cats will always find a way to fish them out. At home, we were facing lots of attacks from some rats. They ate up virtually everything at home including my dad’s certificates. We tried everything possible to annihilate the rat, but all efforts amounted to nothing. At the arrival of a cat, he was able to fish the rat out and kill it.
Meanwhile, as friendly and important as cats are, a lot of people in my environment seem to see them as witches and wizards, hence a spontaneous effort to drive them away whenever they see them. This is the most held belief that does not have any scientific backing. Some people go to the extent of hunting for cats and killing them, while most people will call on the blood of Jesus against cats. These are so myopic and uncalled for. As a result of these, over the years, we have experienced a paucity of cats in our environment. The few people who domesticate cats sell them at a very exorbitant price.
To say the least, I love cats and nothing can make me fall out of love with them. Cats are good security guards. They can protect and watch over things. Also, they are immune to sickness and diseases. Hence, one does not have to spend lots of money on maintaining them. Their lifespan is within the range of thirteen to twenty years. This is a good time for one to enjoy the usefulness of this unique animal. Moreover, cats consume less food; hence, they are economical to raise and domesticate, unlike other domestic animals that consume food like human beings.
I hope that after reading this, you’ll have reasons to keep a cat as a pet.
