I’ll be honest, at this point, I can watch anything with Liam Neeson in it. Man always has me at the edge of my seat and there’s just something about his voice, his presence, that makes even a simple line sound like a life or death promise. I was expecting another standard action flick from this film but was caught off guard. And what caught me off guard was how it managed to bring goosebumps to my skin and tears to my eyes in its later parts. And that love story at its core? Man, I couldn’t help but wish such raw, devoted love existed off-screen and not only in movies. The idea of someone risking everything just to come clean and protect the person they love is just the kind of thing that sticks to your chest.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the plot isn’t really groundbreaking but…

Neeson plays Tom Carter, a professional bank robber who decides to turn himself in after falling in love with Annie (Kate Walsh). But instead of a smooth redemption arc, he finds himself double-crossed by corrupt FBI agents, Nivens (played by Jai Courtney) and Ramon Hall (played by Anthony Ramos), who see his stash as their payday. From that point, it’s classic Neeson territory, calm threats, gritty action sequences, and that trademark, unwavering stare that makes you believe he can take down anyone, no matter the odds.

What stood out for me though wasn’t just the gunfights or the cat-and-mouse chase, but the intimacy tucked between them. The quiet moments between Tom and Annie felt tender, almost fragile, and they reminded me that Neeson’s best action roles are always driven by emotion, not just fists and firepower. I guess that’s why I admire his personality so much. Sure, some of the pacing feels uneven, and a few dialogue lines lean toward the predictable, but trust me, the film makes up for it with its emotional weight.

Thematically, the film is about second chances, honesty and the kind of love that I think can make a hardened man want to wash his slate clean. The cinematography keeps things tight and urban. It’s not overly glossy, but it fits the story’s grit.

And the action? It’s not really the blockbuster type, but when the tension builds, best believe it really builds and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Now where did my goosebumps and tears come from if you may ask me? The explosions? Ramon Hall’s death? Maybe but they were really from seeing a man fight not just for survival, but for something purer. Just that love and redemption was enough.
