When It’s Dark Outside, You’re Always The Light

 This morning felt like one of those days where I just needed music to carry me. It’s September already, and honestly, 2025 feels like it’s sprinting ahead while I’m still catching my breath. Too stunned to believe how quickly August slipped away, I turned on music to boost my mood for the new month, put my playlist on shuffle, and let it play. Then, out of nowhere, *The Light* by Juice WRLD came on. The song stopped me in my tracks because it brought back memories of my ex–best friend. We don’t talk anymore and it seems life has taken us down different paths, but as I listened, I couldn’t help but remember how much of a light she once was in my life. During some of my darkest seasons, she kept showing up. She didn’t always have answers to give me, nor was she able to hand me solutions on a platter of gold, but her presence, the fact that she always came running whenever she heard I was locked up in that dark room was enough to call her my light too. She would motivate me but still make a joke of the situation and we’d laugh it out. She made me believe in true friendships. Even though we’re sadly distant now, listening to that song made me accept the fact that sometimes light doesn’t always stay where we want it, but it never really leaves either. Sometimes it becomes a memory, a lesson, or even a reminder in the middle of a song.  And maybe that’s what life is teaching me right now. Teaching me that I don’t need to wait for perfect conditions to see the light. It just shows up in unexpected places. Can show up in a friend, a lyric, a quiet moment or even a memory that warms you when you least expect it. I’ve come to accept that it’s September already so I’ll be holding onto that thought for the rest of the months this year. The light always finds us, in one way or another. And maybe this month, I can choose to be that light too for myself and maybe for someone else. Btw, Juice WRLD is one of my favorite rappers.
