SAD reigns supreme in SBC13

Hello Hello to all Hivians, Silver Bloggers and anyone else reading this.  This week's [The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt 13](https://peakd.com/hive-106316/@hive-106316/the-silver-bloggers-chronicles-13-so-the-seasons-change-the-september-or-spring-or-autumn-solstice) is .... ### So the seasons change - The September | Spring | Autumn Solstice >Something seems to happen as the days or the nights get longer - or shorter - depending on the hemisphere in which you live. Especially in September as we approach the end of the calendar year. For some people, it's a spiritual experience, for others it's about reflecting on what they've achieved in the year - or not. Sometimes the solstice passes us by, but I'm sure we all have spring - or autumn - memories. I do. ### What are your spcial Spring | Autumn | Solstice memories? Looking back on memories and I think I am going to become a bit of a *Hivewatchers* or a killjoy on this post 🤣  **What a cracking prompt this is for our next Silver Chronicles entry!** A huge round of applause to all the Silverators for keeping this brilliant initiative going after the legendary Memoir Mondays. It’s exactly the kind of thing that tackles writer’s block and gives us all a reason to share our stories, cementing our place in the Silvery Book of the Wise.  Okay then that is my positive part to the post! The prompt about the September Solstice is a fascinating one since it brings up so many different memories and feelings. For me, the [Silver Scot](https://peakd.com/@tengolotodo) (and by way have you got your Silver Name yet??? If not check out [Your Personal Member Name at the Silver Bloggers](https://peakd.com/hive-106316/@hive-106316/why-you-need-to-have-this-and-the-way-to-get-it)) and I have got way off topic... So I shall start again!!! For me, the [Silver Scot](https://peakd.com/@tengolotodo) the whole idea of the seasons turning brings up a mixed bag of emotions. First of all I totally get why some people find a spiritual or reflective side to it, but I’ve got to confess that's not fluffing me! My own experience is a wee bit more, shall we say, on the "doom and gloom" end of the spectrum. I like many others who live in the Northern part of the Northern hemisphere suffer from a bit of SAD.  ### SAD is the abbreviation for Seasonal Affective Disorder. Basically it's a type of depression that is linked to the changing of the seasons. For most people including me it's a condition that begins in the autumn and continues through the winter months until spring.  As someone who fluffing thrives on daylight, the onset of autumn and the September Solstice often feels like the beginning of the end. This solstice is okay as read about Indian Summer later on.. It's the start of the long dark and fluffing dreich days that I know are coming. This feeling was dialled up to eleven when I worked in the Shetland Isles. If you’ve ever had a peek at a map, you'll see they are way, way up off the northern coast of Scotland. In the summer we would get almost continuous daylight. The sun would dip below the horizon for a couple of hours, but it never really got dark. You can be out for a stroll at midnight with no need for a torch. It’s fluffing glorious you know spring in your step weather, you get a true energy boost. You feel alive, vibrant, and ready for anything, well as much as us Silvers can tackle anyway! **But but but then... the autumn rolls in.**  Sometimes we get an Indian summer with gorgeous weather in September and ironically I tell people to visit the East of Scotland in September as many of the tourists have fluffed off and often the days are sunny like they have been all weekend. I digress again, oh slap on wrist time for me! The September Soltise is not a gentle transition, nah it's a fluffing reminder to me that the long night is coming. The days get noticeably shorter at a frightening pace, and you know you’re in for months of darkness. We notice it as we get up at 5am on a weekday and you see it getting darker earlier and earlier. When you have lived near the equator you don't really appreciate there are 4 seasons or that the difference between then can be quite literally like night and day! It feels like the life force is being sucked out of the world. It’s not my idea of fun at all! I suppose you can get used to it but fluff me it’s a constant battle to keep my spirits up. Soooo while others might be contemplating their achievements for the year to date or feeling a spiritual connection, I’m just trying to prepare myself for the lack of sunshine and dark damp dreich and downright dreary days ahead!! Still, it’s a great prompt and I have been keen to read everyone else's take on it. Thankfully people have some more cheerful memories than me!  ### What about you?
