Along the Hamilton escarpment there is many sights and neat things to see. This one is near the top of that list to me!
This 305 step staircase that goes from the bottom to the top of the escarpment is made of stones, branches, and other recycled materials. The whole thing was built by one man named Ulrich "Uli" Nitka, a resident of Hamilton Ont. as a retirement project to help connect the community. He started the project in 2004 and finished it in 2007. He also maintained the staircase until he passed away in 2024.
After I reached the top, all I could think of is how incredible of a feat Uli accomplished and how lucky the community is that he put that love and sweat into it!
Such a neat off the beaten path story of a man who loved his community so much, that he put decades of heavy labor into it!
