A Rare Silver Bar from Jackson, California

@thebighigg · 2025-10-29 20:41 · The City of Neoxian

Wednesday is finally here, halfway through the work week! The days do seem to fly be faster and faster anymore, I suppose being busy doesn't help that problem out. As I mentioned a couple days back, today is going to be unseasonably warm here in southern California. The high today is supposed to be 88 F (31 C) so it should be a little bit on the warm side, I'll have to turn the air conditioning back on later today! It makes me grateful to live in modern times when such luxuries exist and to live somewhere they are readily accessible!

Fortunately, the heat won't be long lived and by the end of the week we should be back to fall temperatures. But moving onto today's post...

I really didn't have anything in mind for a post today and briefly considered just taking the day off. That would break my streak of over a month of daily posting, so I decided against it. That and I had about and hour free this afternoon with nothing better to do, so here we go...

I dug out these photos last week while searching for some others I had stored away. This is kind of an interesting silver bar as it came from a mint that only existed from 1972 until 1974. That would be the Mother Lode Mint in Jackson, California. To be honest, I had no idea where that was located until I looked it up on the map. Turns out it's a city of about 5,000 people in central, west California and once was a gold boom town.

So here is the silver:

I bought it because it is pure silver and the Masonic Lodge theme was kind of interesting. I have no association with them although I have known a couple Masons over the years. Apparently it's not a real common bar and sometimes these can sell for far more than the silver value alone because the are rare. The trick would be finding the right buyer at the right time, but I'm not selling anytime soon. This will remain safely tucked away in it's secured storage for the foreseeable future.

I had considered talking a bit about Freemasonry. However, I realized that I know absolutely nothing about it, other than that George Washington and Ben Franklin were members. They are one of the oldest secret societies on the planet and claim their rituals come from the Temple of Solomon. I am going to leave the Wikipedia page about them so if you are interested you can read it over in your spare time if you care curious. It is interesting, but I couldn't do it justice without about a five thousand word essay, and I'm not up for that this afternoon!

That will do it for today's post, I do hope you enjoyed seeing the Masonic Lodge silver bar from 1973. I enjoy these uncommon silver relics, it gives me a chance to learn something new about the past. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and thank you for all of your support. I really do appreciate it. Have a great day everyone!
