It's kind of an odd week around here in southern California. For some reason it's going to be unseasonably warm for the next few days and the weather service issued a heat advisory. For almost being November, that's a new on for me, but the high in a couple days is expected to be 87 F (30 C.) I don't mind that kind of weather, a last dose of summer before it cools off for winter!
At any rate, today I decided to share another vintage coin from the Caribbean. Although Barbados is technically not in the Caribbean, it's an Atlantic island, it's close enough to be grouped in as part of the islands. In retrospect placing this coin on a black background was a mistake, but oh well. Live and learn!
## About the coin:
From numista.com
This is another coin from the Caribbean that I've collected over the years. I'm not entirely sure when I picked it up, but it's been in the collection for a long time. Like many of the silver coins available from the era from small island nations it was produced by the Franklin Mint, in Wawa, Pennsylvania. A suburb of Philadelphia for those familiar with the area. They produced beautiful coins for many years for nations around the world, usually in sterling silver. This one is an odd duck in that it's only 80% silver, which is likely due to the high silver prices at the time. But it's still a nice silver work of art.
They were 97,000 minted that year and the silver melt value is worth around $37.83 as of the time or writing. However, the coin would likely sell for around $50 to a collector. Over the years fewer and fewer of these were minted until 1983 when only 130 were produced. Those coins are much harder to find and are more expensive if you can get a hold of one!
National Heroes Square
This is a public square in Bridgetown which is the capital city of the island nation. It was named Trafalgar Square but was renamed as the nation became independent from Great Britain. I personally never visited the area on my visit to the island, mainly focusing on beaches and diving. But it looks like I missed out on some great history when I was there!
This fountain commemorates piped water arriving to Bridgetown and was built in 1865. As hard as it is to believe that something we all take for granted in most of the world today was a luxury at one time. The fountain is a national landmark and thus it's appearance on today's coin!

I know this time of year it may be starting to cool off in many northern countries and states. It's times like these that pictures like these make you want to plan that getaway to the islands. Just imagine that warm white sand would feel between your toes and the warm water just beckoning you for a swim. I love the Caribbean!
