A few days ago while searching through some of older coin files and stumbled upon something that was completely out of place. Somehow I had placed this pirate themed Silver Strike token in a file with some older Morgan dollars, one of which I shared yesterday. When I saw this one I knew I had to share it!
Silver Strike collectible tokens could be won by playing Silver Strike Slot Machines and were available in casinos pretty much everywhere around the world. These days there are very few of the machines left, and these old tokens are becoming more expensive. Especially the ones that are solid silver!
This was one of those items that I purchases solely because I liked the design on the token itself. I knew absolutely nothing about Treasure Bay Casino, not even where it is located. Turns out it is in Biloxi, Mississippi, in case you were wondering, a place I have never visited. As a matter of fact I don't think I've ever been to the state of Mississippi! But I do own a silver token from the casino, and it is still in business and thriving. Although I do prefer these from defunct casinos, the design won me over!

I love pirate themed coins and silver rounds, and this one fits the build perfectly. It contains just about 0.6 Troy ounces of silver surrounded by a brass ring. Although it has had a lot of oxidation over the years, it really gives it more character and appears to be older. I really have no idea when this was produced, but it probably was kept in Mississippi in a fairly humid area for several years to have picked up so much oxidation. This is one Silver Strike token that I've always enjoyed, nothing like the Jolly Roger!

As far as pirate history in Biloxi goes, apparently several pirates passed through back in the golden age of piracy. It is located on the gulf coast right on the Caribbean, where the pirates used to play. There are even stories of still buried treasures in the area. So if you are headed down to Mississippi you may want to bring along the old metal detector, you never know what you might find!
