It's funny how certain smells, tastes, sights or sounds can bring back memories that had long been dormant in the mind. As I've gotten older I've found that it happens more and more often, and it's nice how the stimuli can bring you back to a time already long past. This time of year one sight that really stimulates that part of my mind are sunflowers. My mother used to plant them all over the yard and it was a beautiful sight to behold.
I think that's why when I saw a new coin being produced by the US Mint it really caught my eye. It's the first time a coin from the US features a sunflower! It's very fitting as North America is where the species first evolved, although it's now found all over the world with hundreds of variants bred over the centuries. The coin is the American Liberty 2025 High Relief gold coin made of .9999 pure gold!

Isn't that a gorgeous coin? The detail in the sunflower are stunning and even feature a honey bee which is perfect for Hive! It's going to be one Troy ounce of pure gold and will have a high relief design. That means that the features of the coins will be raised higher than the typical coin, making them really stand out!
Then on the reverse (back) of the coin is an awesome eagle design. What a beautiful coin, it's one I definitely want to add to my stack. The price is going to be a little painful at $4,615, but will be one that will appreciate in value quickly in my opinion! Only 12,000 will be minted, so a relatively rare coin. I'll have to see if I can't find a way to fit it in the budget!

Members of the daisy family, the sunflower was first domesticated in North America although exactly when is unclear. It was introduced into Europe in the 1600's and since has spread around the world and is a valuable cash crop particularly in Ukraine and Russia. The wild variety tends to have multiple flower whereas the domesticated versions tend to be larger with one single flower.
An interesting fact is that young plants will have the flower buds follow the sun throughout the day. Once they reach maturity they no longer track the sun but stay in an easterly orientation, as to always face the sun during sunrise. Why? No one knows.
They are my personal favorite flower, obviously going back to when my mother planted them in her yard. The bright yellow is a great way to brighten any day and ever time I see them I can't help but to smile. I have so many great memories tied to them!
That will wrap up today's post. Not having the giveaway post is still a bit odd to me, so I will have to find a new topic to fill in Sunday from now on. Please feel free to leave any questions or comments below. Thank you everyone for all of your support, it's deeply appreciated! Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!
