In December of 1996 renowned horror film director Wes Craven released a movie that started a film franchise unto itself. Scream was packed with acting talent and originality. Here we first see Ghostface whose mask has become a prolific best seller each year at Halloween. It all kicks off in a small California town when a high school girl receives a phone call from the killer. She is forced to answer questions about horror movies or he will kill her boyfriend. Of course she misses one and adios to the boyfriend who is grotesquely disemboweled.

Being a slasher film there is more blood and gore throughout. If you somehow missed this movie it's fun to watch if you like horror films. It was one of the best horror flicks of the 90's which fits perfectly into a Nineties Friday!
For those unfamiliar with it, this is an event that comes around each Friday where you can create a post to share just about anything from the 1990's. It's a lot of fun, just use the tag #ninetiesfriday and it's never a bad idea to do a shoutout to @geneeverett . He started the event and someone usually walks away with some HSBI units! You can never have too many of those!
And now for a bizarre coin from 1996. I've never seen one of these in person, and are incredibly rare. This is the 11 cent coin! Of course in US currency there is no such thing as an 11 cent piece, it results from an error during minting. This particular coin sold on eBay recently (pictures are from eBay as well) for the grand total of $1,400. Not too bad?
Have a look at the first image you see a messed up US penny with Abraham Lincoln.
But if you rotate it 45 degrees to the left you see a dime with Franklin D. Roosevelt. This coin was a dime that somehow got thrown in with the penny copper plated blanks. The elusive 11 cent coin was produced, because a 10 cent dime and 1 cent penny add up to 11 cents!
If you were lucky enough to find one of these error coins you made a lot of money. It may look funky, but it is funky valuable!
Now for some fun music from the decade!
Metallica
This heavy metal band has been around since 1981 forming in Los Angeles, California. Throughout the 1980's they picked up a huge fan base of metal fans, but finally broke into the mainstream music market in 1991 with their self title (black) album that kicked off with a true classic. This is "Enter Sandman":

The Smashing Pumpkins
Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1988 and finally had a record deal by 1991. Their first album Gish picked them up some underground fans but wasn't much of a success. They followed up in 1993 with Siamese Dream which performed much better and gained them a lot of popularity. Their third album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness made them a huge band. But today I have a great song off the second album, called "Mayonnaise":

The Wallflowers
This band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1989 and began performing up and down the Sunset Strip in L.A. They even performed at the world famous Whiskey a Go Go. They were signed to a record deal in 1992 but didn't do very well and struggled to find success until 1996. In that year they released Bringing Down the House with this big hit: "One Headlight":

The Corrs
This Irish band from Dundalk, formed of three beautiful sisters and their brother, kicked off their career in 1990. Throughout the early nineties they picked up a lot of fans in Ireland but struggle to break into the international market. That changed in 1995 release of Forgiven, Not Forgotten. The record was a huge success and they churned out hits until the mid 2000's. The song that got them started was "Runaway":

And I always like to share a song form a Spanish speaking singer that was big in the 1990's, today is one of my favorites!
Shakira
I first heard one of Shakira's songs in 1995 while I was living in Puerto Rico. This Colombian singer rose to fame with her album Pies Descalzos (Bare Feet) released in 1995. She then rose to international fame and became a blonde. This is live performance of the song the album was named for, "Pies Descalzos":
