The the 1980's were a wild and interesting decade, not only culturally, but economically. Some of the most influential musical artists that persist until this day grew to fame in the decade of decadence. It was also during this time that the United States government started to produce silver and gold bullion coins for the first time as silver and gold prices were becoming more valuable. In 1985 they were approved and fist Silver and Gold American Eagles were produced in 1986.
Ten years later the US Mint produced a very special coin series to commemorate the event. The US Mint at West Point, New York, produced a limited run of proof silver eagle coins with the coveted mint mark of W. It's one of the rarest mint marks in the US, ranking up there with CC from Carson City, Nevada. Today I'll share a bit about the 1995 silver proof American Eagle from West Point. First off, have a look at one:
Images from eBay.com, Common Cents Rare Coins
Isn't that a pretty coin? You can see the W mint mark on the reverse (back) below the eagle, making it a rare and exclusive release by the United States Mint. It came as part of a set made for the tenth anniversary of the American Eagle coins and only 30,125 were sold making this coin pretty uncommon. This one in particular was graded by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) to be a PR-69, meaning it is proof coin that was given 69 out of 70 possible points. Very near perfect! The asking price on this is $2,900, it sure makes me wish I had bought one in 1995!
Alas, I don't own one, but it would be a nice coin to own!
This will kick off my Nineties Friday post for this week. Nineties Friday is an initiative started by @geneeverett , and is a day you can share just about anything from the 1990's. He's also adapted it to be Four Tune Friday as well, so if you prefer that angle you can feel free! There are no prizes, just pure fun!
Now for some music from the decade!
Halloween is only one week away, so let's throw in some 90's spooky music!
Rob Zombie
The 90's have some great Halloween music, maybe not as much as the 1980's, but still plenty. One of the biggest will always be the infamous Rob Zombie. I know I shared one last week and I'll have another next, but he is one of my favorite 90's artists. This one comes off the album from 1998 Hellbilly Deluxe and is called "Living Dead Girl":

Metallica
Although often thought of an 1980's band, Metallica really reached their pinnacle of success with the "black" album of 1991. Some of their most well known hits come from the self titled album including "Enter Sandman", "Wherever I May Roam" and of course "The Unforgiven":

The Smashing Pumpkins
This band formed in Chicago in 1988 has been huge since the early 1990's. Not only was their music influential, but they helped introduce many new bands that later became huge acts. Today I felt like pulling one of my favorite songs of theirs from Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness called "Bullet with Butterfly Wings". Yes I've shared it before, but it's Friday and I'm in the mood! So why not?

No Doubt
And why not finish off the day with a little bit of ska music from the iconic band No Doubt. This Orange County band became huge with the release of their 1995 album Tragic Kingdom. Here is one of their biggest hits form the record, "Spiderwebs":
