Hello everyone, I'm Byron and I draw and paint a lot of dark art. Today is no exception to that, but what is different is the process. Normally I work from pen sketch then paint. Today it was paint first then pens.
Exciting right?
Long story short I was bored and tired but couldn't sleep so I sat at my desk and dabbled with the paint. Things slowly took shape as I kept things loose and messy and without thought.
I'm using thick watercolour paper with this and it can take a beating. I tested that by using my black ink pen to carve into the paper, defining features with chaotic black lines.
A bit more paint to deepen the shadows and then I brought out the gel pens to try to make some of the key features pop out even more. I got a bit bolder with the cross hatching as well.
By this point things are pretty much done, but not quite. I had to think about how to finish this and fill the page with paint. In the end I thought simple is better to allow the complex face to be the highlight and filled the rest of the page with red paint.
I think it looks ok. Has some pop, some shock, tells a small story. What do you think?
