Hey everyone,
Today is probably my favorite non-holiday. For me, this date is inextricably linked to the story V for Vendetta, and it's a story I absolutely love.
I love the movie, the message, the symbolism, and the story. It's a powerful reminder that "people should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." It's a celebration of the idea that an idea, an ideal, can change the world.
The day is, of course, named for the famous poem about Guy Fawkes, which has since been adopted by the story:
Remember, remember the Fifth of November, The Gunpowder Treason and Plot, I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot.
Just like our Halloween tradition of watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show every year, my wife and I have our own standing tradition for this day. Tonight, we'll be settling in to watch V for Vendetta. It's the perfect way to mark the occasion.
