When the Sky Disappears - Living in a City with AQI Above 1000!

Welcome back,

In today’s blog I am going to talk about the air quality index in my city which has recently worsened compared to normal days. Even during regular days the air quality index here is quite poor but recently after people burst a lot of crackers it crossed all limits.

I could not see the sky, I could not see the road, and the air quality index crossed 1000 and even 2000 at some places in my city which is extremely hazardous. At the time of writing this blog most areas in my city are experiencing air quality index above 300 and a few places are even above 400. These levels are considered very dangerous.

To give you an idea, an air quality index above 200 is considered poor, above 300 is very poor, and above 400 is severe. That is exactly what a few places in my city are experiencing right now.

The pollutants measured in India’s National Air Quality Index include PM 2.5, PM 10, nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), ozone (O₃), carbon monoxide (CO), and sulphur dioxide (SO₂).

In one of the closest areas to where I live, Punjabi Bagh, the air quality index is 344. The PM 2.5 levels are very poor as they are above 300. PM 10 is also very poor while nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide levels are good and ozone and carbon monoxide are at satisfactory levels. But overall the air quality index remains in the very poor category.

I really hope people start adopting eco friendly habits so that we can improve the situation in our city. Recently one of my friends who is an asthma patient visited a doctor and the doctor advised him to leave the city because it is no longer suitable for him. When I met him recently he told me everything and I was quite shocked to hear that he was asked to leave the city permanently or at least for a few months.

He has faced a lot more difficulties due to the high air quality levels but even healthy people have suffered a lot. When I went out in the morning for work I could feel the difficulty in breathing. A few children in my family also got sick and are now on medication.

This poor air quality is dangerous for everyone and we must all come together to improve it. If we take collective action we can surely make a difference. I know there are machines available in the market that can improve the air quality in your room but at the end of the day you cannot stay inside all the time. You have to step out sooner or later.

So please think seriously about the worsening air quality and try to reduce activities that make it worse like burning crackers. If you must use them go for eco friendly options so that the air quality remains within safe levels.

Thank you for reading. And though this post is not about trading or investments I will still end it the same way. Happy trading everyone.
