This periodic magazine highlights a small selection of short stories posted to The Ink Well community that stood out and were awarded a Curie vote. Thank you to all authors in The Ink Well for sharing your creative work!

> nd that’s when the truth broke out. It was Amaka. Why was I not even that surprised? She had posted the “Freaky Friday” message and also shared the anonymous chat link. She was also the one who compiled the screenshots and reported the entire thing to the HOD. It turns out, she had been sent on a mission by one of the senior lecturers. @daeze-winnie

> My boyfriend had arrived in her car, as usual, and at first I didn't think anything of it, until I heard screams that resounded even in the kitchen where I was. I jumped up to the door and peeked through the window to see what was going on. “Why do you have to tell him everything?” shouted my boyfriend angrily. @universoperdido

> Mama called and just as Emeka said. Uncle Monday's line wasn't connecting. She blamed it on Uncle Monday's phone running out of battery. By morning, when Mama called again his line wasn't connecting. Mama called his girlfriend and was told that he had “traveled.” Just like that. That evening, Uncle Ike came to our house with a plastic chair and said, “Let me sit down and process this madness.” @zerah

> I also had another complication: who would hold the ladder for me? The dog was my only companion, and no matter how smart he was, he couldn't do that. Then an idea came to me. I would hold it up with rocks. This took a lot of effort because I looked for the biggest and heaviest ones. That was it, I had my ladder in the tree and without thinking too much I started to climb up little by little. I carried a thin but strong branch in my hand to knock down the fruits. @popurri

> Fritz put his head in his hands. "I don't want to leave. This is my home. But I can't stay, if I don't have customers. I'll be here until my food supply runs out - since I'm not selling anything that should be quite a while. But unless things change, I won't be ordering another shipment. I'll have to move on eventually..." Pierre rubbed his chin. "I'm glad you're going to try to hold out. We will see if Roberto Ratcliff is here to stay. My prediction is no!" @wrestlingdesires

> The next morning, as early as 7 am I heard my dad scream, and I rushed out of my room to the sitting room where he sat. "Dad, what's wrong?" I asked him. "Peter just called now. He said your Mom got into an accident and she needs surgery. I need to leave now; pack a bag for me." My dad said. I heard the panic in his voice, and I understood his fears, but for some reason, I had a feeling that the news was probably false. @jennyzee1

> With nothing to object each chieftain gave his word to accept the requirements that each of them asked for. Orianka, was Tornado's most beloved daughter. She enlivened their home and family with her skills and by the way she always had something new for the family to do to celebrate village events. The day of the beginning of spring, the day the sleeping bear wakes up, the day of the abundant harvest, the day of the most abundant hunting, and many more occurrences.
