Happy Thursday!
Cloudy morning and very cold hete. August is very temperamental in Canada (or at least here in up north). One day hot, one day cold. It can be 28C today, but 5C tomorrow, for example. Always insane weather when Autumn wants to push through its way in 🫣😅🫣😅
Like yesterday, I dropped off my oldest to his Summer camp, wearing pants and jacket as it was chilly morning, although super sunny and with no clouds. Later on when I picked him up, I was with shorts and t-shirt 🤣 Can never make up my mind what to wear 🤣
So, for chilly day. Stew to the rescue!
1.5 kg Beef cubes 1 tsp Fennel seeds 1 tbsp Chicken bouillon powder 1 tsp Sweet paprika powder 1/2 c Flour Peanut oil (or vegetable oil) 5 Garlic 1/2 large Onion
1 jar sauerkraut 1 L beef broth 1 tsp sweet paprika powder 2 beef cubes 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 c water Dill (fresh would be best)
Water Chicken bouillon powder Sweet paprika powder Flour
Sour cream Sourdough bread
In a large bowl, mix beef cubes, flour, bouillon powder, sweet paprika powder, and fennel seeds. Fry to brown in enough peanut oil
Meanwhile, strain and rise a jar of sauerkraut, set aside. Slice thinly garlic and onion, set to side.
Take out beef from oil, set to side, and saute garlic and onion using the same grease in the pan. Stir in fennel and sweet paprika powder, followed with browned beef, sauerkraut, water, broth, and beef cubes, bring to boil.
Add in dill, to taste
Meanwhile, mix enough flour, 1/2 tsp each sweet paprika powder and chicken bouillon powder in enough water, for thickening the stew. Pour this mixture into the pan once beef is tender, stir to combine well
Serve stew with a dollop of sour cream and sourdough or French bread
Enjoy!
