Several years ago, a friend of mine came for a visit. Her mother had recently passed, and she had been spending time going through her mother's possessions and taking care of the estate. She needed some time to decompress and unwind, so that was the reason for her visit.
After we had talked for a while and caught-up on all the latest happenings, she reached into her bag and pulled out an item that was carefully wrapped for protection and handed it to me. It was a light bulb with little metallic-looking flowers inside! It was so cute!

Then she told me to put it in a lamp and turn it on. I did, and everything inside came to life with a burst of color! ๐ฎ It was amazing! I don't recall ever having seen an artistic light bulb like this before that day, but I have seen a few others since. Two or three other friends were present, too, and all were equally enchanted by the spectacle.
It was so lovely, but I felt a little saddened that she was giving something of her mother's possessions to me rather than keeping it and enjoying it, herself. But, she assured me that she held no sentimental attachment to it, knew that I would like it, and wanted me to keep it. She said her mother had kept quite a few oddities over the years and needed to find good homes for them all.

I have no clue whether this was handmade by an artist as a one-of-a-kind, unique piece, or whether a company might have made several with an assembly line operation. Online searches for "art light bulb" and "decorative light bulb" provides several sources for them, including commercial as well as individual manufacture. But, I was unable to find anything quite as beautiful and wonderfully made as this one! So, that makes me think it might be a one-of-a-kind, or perhaps a relatively old, vintage piece.
Some listings that I saw in my searches offer customized items, where the buyer can specify a name and a simple image (heart, crown, etc.) to be included inside the bulb! Imagine your name in lights! ๐

How do they even make these things...?!?!? The only possible explanation that makes sense to me is perhaps the wires to which the leaves are attached are flexible. That would allow them to be temporarily bent inwards (medially) towards the central axis of the design during the process of gently inserting the design into the bulb, then the leaves spring back (laterally) into their original positions. But, how do they get those pretty colors...?!?!? ๐
Knowing how these are made would not make them any less delightful, though. I remember something an online friend said, years ago, which was quite memorable:
