Hi, hi, hello! Do you like jellyfish? I love them! Because of my studies once I draw over 50 of them. Today I would like to show you the results of this along with some awesome facts about them.
Basic info:
Lifespan (in wild): One year Weight: Up to 2kg (~ 4.4 pounds) Body size: 2cm to 2m (~ 0.8 - 80 inches) Top speed: 8km/h (~5 miles/hours) Diet: Fish, shrimp, crabs, tiny plants and even other species of jellyfish Colors: Some jellyfish are clear, but others are vibrant colors of pink, yellow, blue, and purple. They can be bioluminescent too, which means they produce their own light
They are also in 95% made of water.
Jellyfish have almost always been here
They’ve been in oceans around the world for millions of years. They’re older even than dinosaurs.
The immortal jellyfish
There are two phases to jelly life: the stationary polyp phase and the mobile medusa phase. It's the medusa phase that we're usually referring to when we talk about jellyfish. Typically, jellies start as polyps and develop into medusas, but the Turritopsis nutricula has the ability to travel backward to the polyp stage in times of stress, so it’s immortal that way!
It’s not so easy to kill jellyfish!
Jellyfish is not an animal - its a colony of micro-organisms so crushing it or hacking it to pieces will do nothing. The pieces will remain alive and grow. The only way to kill it is to remove it from the water, dry it out on the beach, then douse it in gasoline and set it on fire. - I read it on the web. But please, don’t kill poor jellyfish...
Anyway… jellyfish don't feel pain because they lack a brain and a central nervous system. They have a rather primitive simple nervous system.
Arts
In the end: here are my jellyfish arts. (I also made all the rest of the drawings used in this post) I hope you’ll enjoy it!
