Grand Hotel Budapest by Wes Anderson

I have never met a director like Wes Anderson before, and now that I have seen some of his films I feel that he is one of the most recognisable film directors to the viewer, his method unfolds like a story that has several layers, often with several characters that don't intertwine and a mise-en-scène that you instantly identify with.

You could almost say that his films are plays (more on that in a moment).

Grand Hotel Budapest was the film I wanted to start seeing this director with, it is one of his most recognisable and many think his style is at its peak in this film, it is fun, lots of black comedy and situations that are the strangest but with touches of sympathy.

The plot at the beginning is a bit complicated to explain because of the layers, we can start the story with someone placing some flowers on the grave of a writer only to then enter an advertisement of that same writer a few years ago,

It's a whole sequence similar to a dream where one moment you're in one place and then suddenly the whole scenario changes.

But once we settle down we can say that the two main characters in this story are Monsieur Gustave H. in charge of managing the Grand Hotel Budapest and his assistant or Lobby Boy Zero Moustafa.

We see how the Hotel works, some of its characters as well as Gustave's obsession with certain issues with some rich women who come to stay at the hotel in certain seasons.

Although what we are seeing is the story of Zero and how he came to own the hotel after the fall of World War II, it is a story that has equal parts charm and tragedy.

There are vibrant colours in every scene, like a pastel painting, there are scenes that look like mock-ups and they work very well to wrap the whole thing in that strange charisma.

The fact that I see this film as a play is more because of the performances, many of the characters are emotionally cold and I think that's partly creative direction from the director but it's still what makes the funny moments better.

I had a lot of fun with the first part of the film in which they introduce all the conflict and the characters, although it is true that once you get used to all the new style the film pales a bit.

It is still a very good film but there are moments that are very long or maybe not entirely good, the characters giving many turns to situations that could be done more easily or scenes that are too long.

The hotel is a character in itself, we spend most of the movie in it and all sorts of strange things happen, from shootouts to someone hanging from the outside, the visual style helps us see this ordinary hotel as something out of fantasy.

I never thought I was going to analyse a film like this but I guess my best advice is that any word I put in here won't be the same as seeing it with your eyes.

Grand Hotel Budapest por Wes Anderson

Nunca habia conocido a un director como Wes Anderson, y ahora que me veo algunas de sus peliculas siento que es uno de los directores de cine mas reconocibles para el espectador, su metodo se desarrolla como un cuento que tiene varias capas, a menudo con varios personajes que no se entrelazan ademas de unas puestas en escena que al instante identificas.

Casi podria decirse que sus films son obras de teatro (mas de esto en un momento)

Grand Hotel Budapest fue la pelicula con la que queria empezar a ver este director, es una de sus mas reconocidas y muchos piensan que su estilo esta en su punto mas alto en esta cinta, es divertida, mucha comedia negra y situaciones que son de lo mas extrañas pero con toques de simpatia.

La trama al comienzo es algo complicado de explicar por la cuestion de las capas, podemos empezar el cuento con alguien colocando algunas flores sobre la tumba de un escritor solo para luego entrar en un anuncio de ese mismo escritor unos años atras,

es toda una secuencia similar a un sueño en donde en un momento estas en un sitio y de repente el escenario cambia por completo.

Pero una vez nos asentamos podemos decir que los dos personajes principales de esta historia son el Monsieur Gustave H. encargado de administrar el Grand Hotel Budapest y su ayudante o Lobby Boy Zero Moustafa.

Vamos viendo sobre el funcionamiento del Hotel, algunos de sus personajes asi como la obsesion de Gustave con ciertos ejem asuntos con algunas mujeres ricas que van a hospedarse al hotel en ciertas temporadas

Aunque lo que estamos viendo es la historia de Zero y como el se hizo con la propiedad del Hotel despues de que cayera la segunda guerra mundial, es un relato que tiene iguales cuotas de encanto asi como de tragedia

Hay colores vibrantes en cada escena, como si de una pintura de pastel se tratase, hay escenas que se ve que son maquetas y funcionan muy bien para envolver toda esta obra en ese carisma extraño

El hecho de que veo a este pelicula como una obra de teatro es mas por las actuaciones, muchos de sus personajes son frios emocionalmente y creo que en parte una direccion creativa del director aun asi es esto lo que hace que los momentos graciosos sean mejores

Me diverti mucho con la primera parte de la pelicula en la que introducen todo el conflicto y los personajes, aunque si es cierto que una vez te acostumbras a todo el estilo novedoso el film palidece un poco

Sigue siendo una muy buena pelicula pero hay momentos que se me hacen muy largos o quiza no del todo buenos, los personajes dando muchas vueltas a situaciones que pudieron hacerse mas facilmente o escenas que se alargan demasiado

El hotel es un personaje en si mismo, nos pasamos la mayor parte de la pelicula en el y suceden todo tipo de cosas extrañas, desde tiroteos hasta alguien colgando de la parte de afuera, el estilo visual aporta a que veamos a este Hotel comun y corriente como algo salido de la fantasia

Nunca pense que me iba a poner a analizar una pelicula como esta pero creo que mi mejor consejo es que cualquier palabra que ponga aca no sera lo mismo que verla con tus ojos
