One of my earliest works - simply called DAVID

The painting was in color, but the oly photo of it that exists was taken by the Alberta photographer Nick Morant, at that time the official photographer of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the company I worked for at that time. He took several photos for a internal company publication about me.

There is not very much I remember about this painting as far as dimensions are concerned, but in those days my sizes did not usually exceed 28 inches high. The painting was done in 1975, a year before my first solo exhibition in Calgary, at the Palliser Hotel in May 1976. I used this image for the invitation. The arts editor of the now defunct "Albertan" (it morphed into the "Calgary Sun" later on) J. Brooks Joyner wrote a glowing review at that time, but he singled out a painting that later would become one of my most successful images (for print sales): Deterioration of Mind over Matter.

There is a bigger story about this: Since that time, J. Brooks Joyner and I were friends - we almost shared a birthday, only days apart (December 1944). I was saddened to find out he passed away in September 2016. Only a month earlier, we were still corresponding via email. He had repeatedly invited me to come and visit, to stay at the guest house on his estate.
