After a few chilly days, the sunny and warm weather today was a welcome change, so I decided to take a stroll down a quiet country lane nearby. Along the way, I couldn’t resist picking a few things I thought I’d need!

I came across plenty of red clover and gathered some. It’s such a beneficial flower, especially for women, and I was surprised to still find some, as most had dried up by now.

I also collected some lichen that fell on the ground, which I plan to use in my deodorant formula and linen freshener.

One of my favourites, hawthorn berries, caught my eye too. These little berries are an amazing heart tonic and help me unwind. They’re packed with antioxidants and have traditionally been used to treat cardiovascular issues like hypertension, chest pain, and even heart failure. But since they can lower blood pressure, they're not suitable for anyone already on blood pressure medication.

I grabbed a few meadowsweet leaves as well. They’re a natural painkiller with anti-inflammatory properties, thanks to their salicylates. If you're allergic to aspirin, though, it’s best to avoid them. A simple tea made by steeping a teaspoon of dried leaves in hot water for 10 minutes (with honey for sweetness) is perfect for easing pain.

As I wandered on, I noticed hogweed seeds starting to fall to the ground, so I collected some to give to a friend who enjoys using them as a spice in both savory dishes and baked goods.

I also picked some common vetch to try out. I’ve heard it tastes similar to peas and works well as a salad garnish. It does need to be boiled for at least 10 minutes to remove toxins, and it's best eaten in moderation.

Then, I have a couple of edible mushrooms growing on rotting wood, which I will eat with my steak tonight.

I was near home when I saw a patch of common horsetail; I picked a handful to add to my shampoo. Horsetail is rich in silica, a material that strengthens hair strands. It makes hair more elastic and prevents breakage, and it also promotes hair growth and makes hair smoother and shinier.

Finally, with my basket full. I headed home.

And I picked some blackberries and elderberries right by our doorstep to make wine.

I have quite a bit to work on tonight, but I’m excited!

and walking was a perfect way to embrace the changing seasons and gather all those beautiful natural treasures!

A peaceful evening to all!
