The SHADOW is what is hidden under the layer of knowledge. As far as the sun is a manifestation of the spirit, so the shadow is considered a symbol of the negative principle or the embodiment of its evil and low essence. It is generally accepted that it resides in our double, that is, in that part of the psyche that is oriented to the subconscious. The shadow, in the Jungian sense, contains all aspects of the personality that are not illuminated by the light of consciousness. Therefore, it has both positive and negative sides, but it is the negative aspects that are of paramount importance for us. Be that as it may, the Shadow more readily accepts negative aspects than positive ones, simply because of our human nature. After all, we are much more inclined to recognize our constructive features and deny unpleasant ones. Therefore, the Shadow is primarily made up of those negative parts of our selves that we have repressed, allowing them to rot and crawl under the surface of our consciousness. The Shadow is not some terrible monster whose sadistic malice unfairly pours out in your direction. In the absence of conscious guidance, she is left to herself and therefore sometimes behaves obscenely. And when that happens, we are much more likely to manifest the demon.
