So, my mom had her birthday in May, and I asked her the hardest question in the world: ”Mom, what do you want for your birthday?”
Because, honestly, buying her a gift is like a mission impossible. It’s not that she’s picky, but I really wanted to give her something special...not just a boring Amazon gift card.
And then… this year she goes:
"Oh my girl, I really want to get a tattoo."
I just looked at her, started laughing like crazy: “Mom, please, be serious. Tell me what you really want.”
But she looked at me, dead serious: “Nope, I mean it. I’ve always wanted to do something a little crazy after 50, and I’ve decided—it’s a tattoo.”
I was SHOCKED. Still not convinced though: “Are you really sure? You know I have a friend with a tattoo studio, I can make an appointment like… right now.”
She said: “Yes! But nobody can know!” ( I told my brother...I mean...hellooo) 🙂
I was dying laughing: “Yeah, of course, no one will see it… especially Dad.” 😉
Like come on, Mom! Dad HATES tattoos. You remember how mad he was when me and my brother got our first ones?
So I asked: “Are you trying to start a fight with him? Or do you just want to show off that you’re braver than him?”😉
She smiled: “Okay, maybe a little. But really, I want something meaningful on my body. This is it.”
I was like: “Okay, done. I’m calling my friend right now.”
And then I added: “You know what? I’ll get one too. Why not?! Let’s share this experience together.”
As the day was getting closer, I kept asking: “Mom, are you suuure? Don’t cancel last minute like ‘Oh nooo I forgot, I have to wash my hair today.’”
Because honestly, I still couldn’t believe she’d actually do it at 55.
Every now and then, she would call me:
"Wait, I can’t swim for two weeks? I can’t be in the sun?" 😂
Next day: “But my friend told me it’s not good to get a tattoo in summer.”
I told her: “Mom, it’s tiny, you’ll wear a t-shirt, the sun won’t even see you. And you’re not going to the beach until August, we’re safe!”
“Okay, I’m just telling you what I heard…”
“Ohhh mom, are you getting nervous?” 😉
She gave me her tough face: “No no no, I gave birth to two kids, that was WAY harder!”😊
I laughed so hard because… honestly? She’s not wrong! 😉
So, yesterday, I went home and told her one more time: “Mom, this is forever, okay? Stay cool.”😊
When we got to the studio, I told her she’s going first. No way I’d let her watch me and then chicken out!
“Yeah yeah, no problem,” she said, looking super brave.
So I started teasing her: “Mom, you know you’ll be bleeding everywhere, right? And it hurts so much, I was crying so much last time. Do you have tissues with you? And actually, it will hurt for two WEEKS. Oh wait, actually two MONTHS! And you can’t swim the whole summer!”
I couldn’t keep a straight face anymore. My friend and I were laughing like maniacs, and my mom was just staring at me like “WHAT?! Why didn’t you tell me this before?!” 😂😊
I was like: “This is payback, mom! Remember when you took me to the dentist and told me they’d pull out all my teeth because I ate too much candy? I was SO scared and you just started laughing and said, ‘I’m joking, baby!’ Well, this is my revenge!”😉
So they started tattooing her, and honestly...my mom was super chill. At one point she even asked: “Are you sure you’re really tattooing me? Or is this just a marker?” 😂
I still don’t know if she was just acting brave or if she really meant that.
Her tattoo? Four little birds. Two sitting, two flying away.
The two sitting? Mom and Dad.
The two flying? Me and my brother (even though my brother still lives at home but okay, details. 😊
Then it was my turn.
I already knew what I wanted for some time now. Something super meaningful that no one else would understand.
I got a Neuron-Inspired Tattoo, you know...epilepsy...
To explain:
Big circles = neuron cell bodies.
Lines = electrical signals.
Dotted lines = pathways between neurons.
Small dots = neurotransmitters.
Why? Because I love how everything in our brain and body is connected. It’s literally a part of me. It represents my brain, which isn’t working right because of epilepsy. So yes, it’s meaningful to me. I always said, I’ll only get tattoos that MEAN something. Never just random stuff.
And guess what? My mom actually loved it! 😊
I’m so proud of her, she really did it. She’s honestly the coolest. 😉
And big shoutout to my friend—his studio is awesome, and he’s seriously talented. He really made this experience perfect for my mom.

So now, my mom has a tattoo.
We shared this amazing memory together.
There’s just one tiny thing…
Dad is coming home today. He’s been away working all week. I’m VERY curious to see if he even notices. 😉
I’m just waiting for my mom to call and tell me how “impressed” he was. 😊)))
With love, @tinabrezpike❤️
