But not everything is ugly around here; although it is crazy.
I know that the National Capitol is the most imposing building in all of Cuba. I am aware of that. But my favorite is the old Asturian Center. It is the building, as a whole, most beautiful, ornate, and sober at the same time...
After '59, the government decided to use this magnificent construction for more trigonometric purposes than the waves of this sea that surrounds us. Among other less-than-irate moves, luckily, he ended up using it as the Universal Art section of the Museum of Fine Arts. As they say in good Cuban: thank goodness. Today, the adventure I'm sharing with you has greater visual value than words. The girls and I took a Sunday getaway to the National Museum of Fine Arts, specifically, to the building that houses the Universal Art Collection.
At first glance, it might seem like a trivial matter. But when you're experiencing—or rather, suffering—a divorce, sharing time with your daughters and family members who have grown apart is an unspeakable celebration. And this expression isn't merely a repetitive gesture. Find in it the value of so many unfulfilled promises, so many repressed desires in those dysfunctional interpersonal relationships.
Where the children suffer the most.
These family outings are a balm that builds, rebuilds, and heals. I tell you this because I see my daughter Isabelle Lucía quite often; in fact, I can't complain about what God has given me with her. However, I hardly ever see Sasha Naomi, my older daughter, except for these weekend trips, for which I invent every possible excuse to bring them together for a family day out.
But I won't burden you with my shortcomings. Here are some images from one of my favorite outings with Sasha and Lucía. We spent the whole day exploring Old Havana, but this tour within the most beloved walls in the country captures my full attention.

Me llegan a la mente ideas de José Lezama Lima y termino este primer párrafo recordando que nacer aquí, en esta isla grande del Caribe -en boca del maestro: … es una fiesta innombrable.
Pero no todo es feo por acá; aunque sí loco.
Sé que el Capitolio Nacional es el edificio más imponente de toda Cuba. Estoy consciente de ello. Pero mi favorito es el antiguo Centro Asturiano. Es la edificación, en su conjunto, más bella, recargada y sobria a la vez...
Luego del ´59 el gobierno decidió utilizar esta construcción magnífica para usos más trigonométricos que el oleaje de este mar que c¡nos circunda. Entre otros movimientos no muy airados, por suerte, terminó por utilizarlo como la sección para Arte Universal, del Museo de Bellas Artes. Como se dice en buen cubano: menos mal. Hoy la aventura que te comparto posee un valor superior en el plano de lo visual que de las palabras. Las niñas y yo nos dimos una escapada de domingo al Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, específicamente, al edificio correspondiente a la Colección de Arte Universal.
A simple vista pudiese parecer una nimiedad. Pero, cuando vives -o sufres, mejor dicho-, un divorcio, compartir con tus hijas, y familiares que se han distanciado es una fiesta innombrable. Y esta expresión no es por puro gesto repetitivo. Encuentra en ella el valor de tantas promesas inconclusas, tantos deseos reprimidos en esas relaciones interpersonales disfuncionales.
Donde los que más sufren son los niños.
Estos paseos en familia son un bálsamo que edifica, reconstruye, sana. Les cuento esto porque a mi hija Isabelle Lucía le tengo con bastante frecuencia, de hecho, no puedo quejarme por lo que Dios me ha regalado con ella. Sin embargo, a Sasha Naomi, mi niña grande, casi no la veo, salvo estos viajes de fin de semana, para los cuales invento todos los pretextos posibles para unirlas en una jornada familiar.
Pero no le agobio más con mis insuficiencias. Acá les dejo imágenes de uno de mis paseos favoritos con Sasha y Lucía. Estuvimos todo el día recorriendo la Habana Vieja, mas este recorrido dentro de las paredes más queridas del país, acaparan toda mi atención.
Mi gente querida, si visitan la Habana, les puedo asegurar con todo mi corazón que este es uno de sus Imperdibles Top#10. No se lo pierdan.
