A DEEP MISTAKE

Looking back, I realize that I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life. Driven by impatience and the pressure to keep up with my friends, who were all getting engaged, I found myself caught in a web of desperation. When my friend Amara shared the news of her engagement, I couldn't help but feel a wave of anxiety wash over me. Why wasn't my life progressing in the same way? Was I not attractive enough to find a partner?

In my quest for companionship, I stumbled upon a handsome guy online who lived in Italy. Our conversations started slowly, but everything seemed to flow smoothly. He was sweet and caring, or at least that’s how he portrayed himself. I became infatuated and overlooked one crucial detail: I had no idea what his line of work was, nor did I bother to find out. My desire to marry him clouded my judgment, and I often dropped hints about my intentions.

Eventually, he invited me to Italy, claiming he had a big surprise planned for me. My excitement was palpable, but I couldn’t shake off a few concerns. He coaxed me into coming, asking, “Don’t you want to get married?” This was exactly what I wanted to hear. In my mind, I envisioned a grand proposal in Italy, far more glamorous than anything my friends had experienced. I lost all reasoning and embarked on the journey.

Upon my arrival, I contacted him to let him know I had landed. He informed me that someone would be waiting at the airport to pick me up and provided me with a number to call. I felt puzzled but decided to go along with it. A few minutes later, a car pulled up in front of me. I hesitated but ultimately got in. The driver looked strange, and an unsettling feeling crept over me, but it was too late to turn back.

Before I realized what was happening, I was drugged and lost consciousness. When I finally woke up, I found myself in a horrifying situation—I had been sold to human traffickers and was forced into a life of prostitution.

I regretted every decision that led me to that moment, but it was too late. If only I had taken the time to think things through, to ask the right questions, and to prioritize my safety over the pressure to conform. My story serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impatience.
