This is not a regular movie we watch every day; the storyline of this movie is so different, not like the regular Nollywood movie. 'Devil is a Liar' is so interesting! This movie was produced by Esse Odometa and written by Tunde Babalola. Follow me as I narrate what happened in the movie.
The movie starts with Adora's (Nse Ikpe-Etim) sister getting engaged. They're having an engagement party in Adora's home because her home is very beautiful, and she's rich. She's the firstborn, and she's the only one yet to get married, and she's turning 40 soon. The next day, Adora went to a clothing store owned by Jaiye, a fashion designer, to buy some clothes. While trying on clothes, Jaiye came to her and chose for her, and they got talking. The next day, Jaiye sent some gifts to Adora's office and called to know if she liked the gift. She was surprised how he got her number, and Jaiye said it's not a big deal to get her number. So they got along, and he invited her on a date, and they started dating. Jaiye told her he wanted to marry her. Adora said no way because of their age difference, and she'll be turning 40 soon and she is 10 years older than him. Jaiye told her that he really loves Adora.
Adora discussed it with her friends, and some made jests of her, saying she's just desperate. But she has this friend who advised her that people's opinions don't matter and if she loves Jaiye, she should continue with the marriage. After a month, they got married. Adora visited her husband's workshop and met Anna, whom Jaiye introduced as his cousin. Adora's sister gave birth, and Jaiye and Adora went there to greet her.
Her stepmother told her that she's no longer getting younger, that they should have children. On their way home, they started discussing it in the car, and that's when Jaiye told Adora that he doesn't want kids. Adora was like, "You don't want kids? How?" She wants kids, and Jaiye told her that if she has any kids, he won't support her. The only thing on his mind is how his brand will grow and how he'll get an investor for his brand. Adora promised to be an investor, and she invested. She got pregnant, and she was worried Jaiye would be sad. But when she got home and told him, he was a bit happy because Adora has invested in his business.
While they were eating, he asked Adora what is inside the briefcase in the wardrobe. Adora told him it was her life property. After nine months, Adora gave birth to a baby girl, and after two years, she got pregnant again and told Jaiye. But Jaiye refused to accept it and told her to abort it. She said she can't abort it, and Jaiye said Adora will have to pick between him and the pregnancy. She left the house because Adora owns the house. Adora was sad and told her friend, but her friend advised her not to abort the baby. If Jaiye doesn't want the baby, she should allow Jaiye to leave. But Adora doesn't want Jaiye to leave her, so she accepted to abort it, and Jaiye moved back into the house. She went for the abortion.
They continued to live their life until one day they went shopping with their child. Adora was greeting an old friend, and Jaiye got angry. They started arguing on the matter on their way home, and Jaiye lost control. They had an accident, and it was terrible. Jaiye's injuries were minor, but they lost their only child to the car accident. Adora spent some days in the hospital while Jaiye was already out of the hospital, flexing with another woman.
Adora's family started advising her that she should not cry, that there are testimonies of many people who gave birth after 40, and that she would give birth again. The doctor told the family to give her space, that she wants to talk to Adora in private. The doctor told her that she had undergone a hysterectomy, the process of removing her womb. That's when she realized that during the abortion process, Jaiye had colluded with the doctor to remove her womb. She was more than angry. After she was discharged, she went back to the hospital and asked for Doctor Bebe, but they told her he has relocated to Europe. She started looking for Jaiye.
One day, an unknown number sent her Jaiye's location. She went there and saw Jaiye hugging and kissing a woman. She jammed him with her car and was arrested. She explained everything to her lawyer, who told her she could only escape the court sentence if Jaiye survived. So, she, her sisters, and the lawyer tried to find 30 million to fly Jaiye to India for treatment. She gave her sisters her account password, but all her money had been withdrawn. She told them to go to her house, where they would find a safe box in her wardrobe, and take a document to sell for the money. However, when they got to the house, they found it had been broken into, and someone had taken the box. The only person who knew the password was Jaiye. Later, she remembered an account she had opened for her daughter, and they managed to withdraw the money and fly Jaiye to India. But they received a report that he had died, and Adora was sentenced to prison for a short term due to her influence and her lawyer's help.
She suffered in prison, where other prisoners beat her. One day, her lawyer visited her and told her she had collected a loan, which Adora didn't remember taking. The lawyer showed her the evidence with her signature, and Adora remembered being drugged and having her hand used to sign a document. She became angry and was taken away. She began learning boxing in prison. Finally, she was released from prison and taken home. Her friend and sister advised her to go on vacation, which she did.
On vacation, she saw Anna, the girl Jaiye introduced as his cousin. She was hiding until she saw the shocking part of her life . Jaiye is alive and is the father of Anna's two children. It made sense now why he didn't want kids with Adora. She snuck into their room and saw all the property Jaiye had acquired. She called her friend, who had been released from prison with her, to get a gun. On an evening, she showed herself to Jaiye, and he followed her to a private place. She pointed a gun at him, but the bullets didn't get to him. They started fighting, and Jaiye revealed that he only came into Adora's life for her money. Lucky for Adora, she had learned boxing in prison, and she finally killed him with a glass.
While Anna was swimming, Adora's prison friend deceived Anna's children into going with her. Anna rushed to find her children and saw her husband's dead body. Adora demanded one billion naira for the return of her children, and Anna transferred the money. The police then arrested Adora.
I rate this movie 10/10. You won't understand until you watch it yourself. Though revenge is not good, Adora's actions were satisfying. I was angry on her behalf while watching this movie, seeing all the wickedness people can do for money. The Bible says money is the root of all evil, and this movie proves it. I was disappointed in Anna, who joined forces with her husband to destroy another woman's life for money. The movie teaches women in their 30s or 40s who are yet to get married not to be desperate and young guys who pretend to fall in love with older women for their money to stop their wickedness.
