When I talk about the most inspirational person in my life, without thinking twice I will say it is my mother. My mummy is a woman like no other. She is strong, hardworking, and selfless. The way she has lived her life inspires me every single day.
She is the firstborn in her family, and she lost her mother when she was still in primary five. Anytime she tells me her story, I just imagine how hard it must have been for her. She said she used to hawk on the streets and also go to the farm just so they could eat and also pay her school fees. Her father couldn’t take care of everything, so she had to carry responsibilities far beyond her age. In fact, she even struggled to train her younger ones, especially the last born. Listening to her stories always reminds me that no matter how tough life feels, there is always a way if you are determined.
Even now, my mummy has not stopped working hard. She does everything possible to give us a better life. She is always supporting me in my business. Many times, she will call me and ask, “Hope you are making profit in this business?” She says it to remind me to be careful and serious about what I’m doing. She always teaches me how to think smart in business.
I remember when I was doing cow skin (ponmo) business. She didn’t just sit back and watch me, she was fully involved. She helped me order goods, she helped me sell, and she even followed up with customers who bought on credit to make sure I collected my money. She didn’t want my business to die. That period really showed me how much she believes in me and wants me to succeed.
Even with my baking business today, she is still my number one encourager. Just recently, I told her that people always ask me if I also do decoration, and I was thinking of learning it. Without wasting time, she told me to go for it. She advised me and encouraged me to expand, because she wants me to be better than I am now. That is who she is always pushing me to aim higher.
The truth is, when I look at all she has done for her siblings in the past, and what she is still doing for us today, I feel so inspired. She never complains, she never gives up, and she always puts her family first. She has been through a lot, but she never allows her challenges to break her. Instead, she uses them as fuel to keep moving forward.
My biggest wish in life is to be able to give her the best life. She has sacrificed so much for us, and I don’t want her to keep struggling forever. I dream of the day when she will rest and enjoy the fruits of her labour. If there is anyone I want to make proud in this world, it is my mother.
I believe her life can inspire anyone who feels like giving up. My mother’s life shows that your background does not decide your future. She is living proof that with determination and hard work, you can create a better life for yourself and your family.
For me, she is not just my mother; she is my role model, my business teacher, my adviser, and my biggest source of motivation. Every day, I thank God for her. Truly, my mother is the most inspirational person in my life.
