Prayer First, everything else later.

The first thing I do in the morning when I wake up is pray and declare good things into my day. I believe strongly in the power of words and how prayer shapes the day ahead. I always tell myself that how you start your morning matters a lot, because it determines how the rest of your day will go. So every day, I speak life, joy, peace, and favour into my morning and visibility to my business.

There was a time I used to write down my daily goals immediately after praying, but I stopped because I noticed I didn’t always follow them strictly. Now, I just keep them in my mind, the things I plan to do, the people I need to call, or tasks I must complete. Sometimes I achieve everything, and other times I don’t. But I’ve learned not to pressure myself too much; every new day is another chance to do better.

When I was still in school, my mornings had a special routine. I never rushed out of bed straight to class like some people. I would wake up, pray, sweep my space, and eat before leaving. I’ve never been the type who only drinks tea in the morning, in fact, I don’t really love tea like that. I prefer to eat real food that can carry me throughout the day because I hardly eat again until I return from school. The only thing I might buy in school is a small snack, maybe puff-puff or biscuit, just to keep me going.

By 7:45 a.m., my housemates and I would leave the house and start trekking to school. We lived close to the small gate, so by 8:10 or 8:20, we would already be in class, sometimes even before the lecturer arrived. That routine became part of me, and even after graduating, it didn’t leave me. Now, I still wake up early to pray, sweep my space, and cook before preparing to go anywhere. Those habits built discipline in me, and they still guide how I live my mornings today.

I don’t really do any morning exercise, but I jokingly say that my morning exercise is prayer. It’s the first thing that strengthens me, spiritually and mentally. Maybe one day I’ll build the habit of physical exercise too, but for now, I’m content with the one that keeps my spirit fit.

After praying, before I even step out of bed, I usually check Hive. I love opening the platform early to see how my posts are doing, reply to comments, and check if there are new community prompts I can relate to and write about. Reading what others post in the morning often gives me inspiration for the day. Sometimes I start gathering my ideas in my head immediately, so that when I’m ready to write, it flows easily. Hive has become a kind of morning motivation for me, something that challenges me to think, create, and share.

My mornings are not perfect, but they are mine, filled with simple, meaningful routines that keep me grounded. Prayer gives me peace. Checking Hive wakes my creativity. Cooking and cleaning prepare me for a fresh start. These small things remind me that every morning is a new opportunity to do something right, no matter how yesterday went.

I may not have the most beautiful routine, but it’s one that helps me stay connected, to God, to my purpose, and to my business. And that’s what truly matters: starting with gratitude, staying intentional, and ending with peace.
