The Focus App Every Student Needs.

Good day hivers, I’m so happy to finally post here. This is my first time posting here. So in regards to this week prompt this is my response. Many times when I want to read, I end up scrolling on TikTok. I’ll tell myself, “Let me just check one video,” and before I know it, two or three hours are gone. The book is still open on the same page, and the only thing I’ve achieved is laughing at funny videos. This happens to me a lot, and I know many students also face the same problem. ![social-media-763731_1280.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/toluwanih/23uFTQK1DZybeidM75g1oaj7g3meCDciJA5zRmi5a9JLXUbtHz8gmkRomMTQWAh7jnwgG.jpg)[source](https://pixabay.com/photos/social-media-facebook-smartphone-763731/) The truth is, the biggest challenge students have is not that we don’t have books or notes to read. The real issue is focus. No matter how much we try to summarize, record voice notes, or even turn our notes into audio, at the end of the day we still need to sit down and actually read. And that is where the problem starts. Picking up our books is not the problem it is staying away from distractions, especially our phones. Social media is the number one distraction for students today. You plan to read for one hour, but you quickly “check something” on WhatsApp or Instagram, and before you know it, one or two hours are gone. Most of us only start reading seriously when exams are around the corner, and even then, it is still hard to concentrate. So if I had the chance to create an app, I would build something I call **The Focus Lock App**. This app will help us stay away from distractions when it is time to study. It will work like a banking app that locks your savings until the date you set. No matter what you do, you cannot withdraw that money before time. In the same way, this app will lock us out of our phones during the hours we set for reading. ![social-media-54536_1280.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/toluwanih/EpQxGVBtmzsCtCig9FNtz9H3KTWg8xbWy395fo4naRHEFYi77rWRhukT4wzcpBHs7UX.jpg)[source](https://pixabay.com/photos/social-media-network-media-54536/) For example, if I want to read from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm every day, once the time reaches 6:00, the app will automatically block me from opening any other apps except the ones I actually need for studying, like my PDF reader or note-taking apps. Even if I try to open TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook, it will not allow it until 8:00 pm. During that time, every 30 minutes, it will also remind me with a short message like, “Stay focused, keep reading.” It will feel like having a small coach inside my phone. I really believe this app will help students a lot. If we can just dedicate two to three hours every day from the start of the semester, exams will not feel so scary because we would have already covered most of our work. The problem is that many of us wait until exam week before we start rushing, and that is why it becomes too much for us. With this app, we won’t depend only on our own discipline the app will discipline us. For me, The Focus Lock App is something every student needs. It’s simple, but it can truly change the way we study on campus. Who knows, maybe one day a student like me will actually build it. I invite @mhizdiamond @preshkeyz7 and @tahmina9 to this week prompt. Link here [link](https://peakd.com/hive-109584/@hivestudents/hscp-wk7-new-prompt-inventing-an-app-or-tool)
