When Modesty become old fashioned.

Gone are the days when morals were held up high. Now, we are in a generation where almost everything we were taught to be wrong has suddenly become normal. Sometimes I just sit down and wonder what really happened to modesty, the value our mothers and teachers used to remind us of every single day.

One thing that really gets me angry and confused is how dressing half-naked has now become a fashion trend, especially among ladies. You will see young girls walking on the street with almost nothing covering their body. Some now go out without wearing a bra, and the funny part is that they don’t even care if their whole chest is showing. The moment you try to correct or advise them, they’ll quickly say, “You don’t tell an adult how to dress.”

Like seriously? Since when did dressing decently become an offense? I sometimes feel like we are in a world where wrong things are now right and right things are now outdated. It makes me angry when I see people proudly posting half-naked pictures online just to gain attention or followers. It used to be shameful before, but now people clap for them and even call it “sexy”

Another thing that surprises me is what happens during weddings these days. The bride’s friends, the so-called “aso ebi ladies,” now sew dresses that show almost everything, from their shoulders to their cleavage and sometimes their thighs. You will hardly see a decent outfit among them again. I always ask myself, is this what fashion has turned into? Is it that modesty is no longer beautiful or we are just copying blindly what we see on social media?

The worst part of all is what our teenagers are now doing online. Many of them post dance videos wearing almost nothing. Some of them are just in their early teens, but the kind of things they do on social media is alarming. Sometimes I wonder if they have parents or older ones who talk to them at all. Everything is now for likes, followers, and attention. Nobody seems to care about morals anymore.

It honestly breaks my heart because we are gradually losing the values that used to make our society respectable. I grew up in an environment where you couldn’t even wear a short skirt without someone correcting you. But now, if you try to advise anyone, they’ll call you judgmental or say “It’s my body, my choice.

Yes, it’s your body, but there should be a sense of self-respect and decency. Dressing modestly doesn’t make you less beautiful or less confident. In fact, it shows discipline and self-worth.

I really wish people would understand that not everything trending on social media is worth copying. Fashion is good, confidence is great, but morals should never go out of style. Because when decency disappears, respect follows it. And that’s what pains me the most about this generation we have replaced modesty with madness, and nobody seems to see anything wrong with it.
