My roots

If I had been told that I wouldn’t have enough time to post or stay online, I wouldn’t have believed it. The first challenge I encountered was the unstable network, followed by an unreliable power supply. It’s not that where I was coming from had stable electricity, but at least we had alternative means of sourcing for it, either through a generator or solar panels. Generally, this is one of the major problems confronting us in my country.

The funny thing is that the government doesn’t make provisions for pipe-borne water, yet they still expect us to start paying levies before we can drill a borehole. This was a directive from a particular government in my state of origin.

Since it’s been almost two years since I last spent time with my parents, I’m happy to be with them now. I can’t really say that I miss home, but I can’t say otherwise either. Since I got married and moved away, the only major change I’ve noticed in my community is the influx of new buildings being erected, even though the road is still in poor condition. Should we say that maintaining the road is the responsibility of the people in the community? Sometimes, I wonder what exactly we benefit from our government. I don’t understand how the government can ignore the plight of its citizens.

Leaving that aside, I took a walk around the vicinity to see if anything had changed in the last two years. I noticed a few fish ponds owned by some entrepreneurs. Some people have made a fortune from the business, while others complain of losses. Which one should we focus on? It’s important to understand that every business has its risks and requires tenacity and resilience.

When I moved closer to one of the fish ponds, I noticed they had installed a CCTV camera to monitor and prevent theft. However, there was only one camera installed, which made me think it was a waste of time for anyone who understands how CCTV systems work. When I was on the phone with a friend and mentioned it, she argued that someone could simply cover the camera lens or disable it from the back without anyone noticing. Honestly, if you think about it, that’s just the truth.

At home, I realized there are always plenty of things to discuss. Family discussions sometimes go beyond casual conversations and become quite deep.

My siblings also wanted to come over to say hello, but I told them not to worry or stress themselves because they would still be expecting something from me afterward. We all know how family issues never truly end. There’s always something new coming up.
