Hello food-lovers! Hope you are all having a great day!
Last Saturday it had been raining cats and dogs here in my city. We had ample time, but got nothing to do. That’s when an idea popped up! How about I make bread rolls to pass the time and make our tummies happy. 😋 I remember how we used to have fun making bread rolls back then. So, why not do it with my hubby and 4-year-old daughter?
And the fun began.
I checked that we have all the ingredients we need – ham, cheese, loaves of bread, egg, cooking oil and bread crumbs (no exact measurement needed as it will all depend on how many bread rolls you want to make).
We started by flattening each slice of bread. We didn’t have rollers so we looked for an empty wine bottle and it worked just fine. (My husband was taking videos and photos while telling funny stories. Our daughter, on the other hand, was helping me flattening the bread - giggling and full of energy). 😀
Then, we cooked the ham. Make sure that when you fry anything, you preheat the pan to avoid the cooking oil from splattering and to ensure even cooking.
When it’s done, we started slicing the ham and cheese. After that, we broke the eggs and separated the white from the egg yolk. This time, we only need the egg white. Separate it into a bowl and set the yolk aside for another recipe. Soon after, prepare the bread crumbs by pouring some onto the plate.
And then the rolling began. One by one, we placed a slice of ham and cheese onto each piece of flattened bread. Once filled, we gently rolled the bread into a tight log. To seal the edges, we brushed the ends with egg white. Next, we coated each roll by dipping it in egg white, then rolling it in breadcrumbs until fully covered. At this point, they were ready for frying. (My daughter had fun doing this as she wanted to be part of the prepping time.) 😆
Lastly, frying time. Make sure to put a lot of cooking oil onto the pan because we need to deep-fry each roll. You’ll know it’s cooked when it turns golden brown.
And what better way to indulge yourself with this yummy treat? Of course, pop a bottle of wine and savor each bite alongside your family.
My husband opted to have it with a cup of coffee, though. And my daughter? Oh, she just ate it, giggling!
And that’s how we spent our Saturday - cooking, giggling and with happy tummies!
‘Till next time. Happy eating!
