Pizza and ensaymada as 'pasalubong' - take-home treats meant to be shared with loved ones

Delicious Food.png Hello Hivers! I have a question for you.

When you go out, what treats do you usually bring home to your family? In my country, take-home treats are called “pasalubong”. It’s a cherished tradition to bring pasalubong for loved ones whenever possible, and we almost always make sure to buy something special to share.

You see, last Saturday, I went out and had a nice lunch at the mall. While savoring that bowl of Japanese salmon tanindon, I couldn’t help but think of my family. 7.jpg 5.jpg

On my way home, I decided to stop over at Domino’s Pizza. It’s located in Kapasigan and the building looks a bit old because it has been there for as long as I can remember. It may look rustic on the outside, but inside it is well-maintained. They even have a platform where kids can watch them prepare pizzas. There were two customers waiting for their order and it was just awfully quiet. 6.jpg 4.jpg

I ordered our go-to pizzas: two boxes of bacon and mushroom, and one box of Hawaiian. I would have added the garden flavor as well, but it wasn’t available at the time. We love their pizza because it’s never oily, the toppings are flavorful, and the crust has the perfect texture. It’s always fresh and simply delicious. 😋

After that, I went to Red Ribbon to buy ensaymada - a soft, sweet, and fluffy Filipino pastry that originated from the Spanish “ensaimada”. It’s a soft, buttery bread topped with grated cheese, melted butter and sugar. It looks simple but richly flavored . 😋

When I arrived home, my husband and daughter excitedly welcomed me with a hug. I showed them my pasalubong and they couldn’t contain their happiness. They washed their hands and sat on the dining table while I changed clothes and freshened up. When we’re all ready, we shared the blessing and that concluded our afternoon - a simple family bonding over pizzas and ensaymadas with some teasing and laughter echoing the dining area.

We were so full that we skipped dinner. 😆😆😆

After our daughter fell asleep, my husband and I shared some leftovers and a glass of wine. We had a lighthearted but heartfelt chat about marriage and how life has been lately. It felt good to have that talk.

Funny how pizza, ensaymada, and a glass of wine can turn a regular day into a meaningful, memorable occasion.

I’m really glad I brought that pasalubong along.

Thank you for reading. Hope you are all having a great day!
