Happy life in total harmony with the Universe. After a few months away, I'm returning to my little window on Hive. During this time, things have happened, which I'll be sharing with you. Today I'm starting by talking about how, by using our skills, knowledge, experiences, and taking risks, we can create new opportunities for ourselves, opportunities you may never have thought possible. In my case, being a marketer, speaking a little (or quite) of English, having experience in my field, staying up-to-date, and, above all, being daring, has allowed me to work independently, with triumphs and failures, but with personal growth and new hopes. It's true that at times it's terrifying when work doesn't come in and, consequently, neither does income, coupled with the difficult socioeconomic (and political) situation in my country.

But this post isn't about complaints or the complexities of working as a freelancer, but rather about the opportunities to live experiences you never imagined possible. Without a doubt, one of the things I've enjoyed doing most, and which I discovered without even trying, has been teaching. I believe we are all born with a set of skills and talents (or a survival set) that we discover throughout our lives. That's what teaching English has been like for me. With essential breaks. But the language, teaching, and I always reconcile, with the help of needed participants whom some call friends and others call angels. My friend/sister for life, Carmen Rosa (whom I've talked about in another post) has been one of those people who believed in my abilities more than I did in myself.

Many years ago, she was one of the first people to encourage me to teach English and even got me my first clients. Rosita did it again. She insisted that I apply for an English teaching position at a college near my home. She insisted so much, so much that I got fed up. But I did it and got the job. Although it's a contract job for two semesters, I still feel like I'm still a freelancer since I have assigned hours based on the availability I presented to them. The truth is, I'm on my honeymoon with this new responsibility. From this relationship, I have the best of both worlds: the security of a steady job (or at least for one more semester) and the freedom of time and autonomy in the teaching process. Love it! The experience has been very rewarding.

I started with English classes and ended up teaching digital marketing, tourism marketing, and even covered for a computer professor (administrative) and tutored internships. Did I ever imagine it? Never, not even in my wildest expectations. It has been very enriching, not only professionally but personally. Putting my best skills to work and learning from young people, from their current slang to their fresh ways of facing challenges. It has also allowed me to realize how much we need to work on the mental health of this society. Honestly, I'm very excited about this experience. Of course, I also have to be realistic. This is like falling in love with a poor boyfriend, because the reality check is that the income is secure but insufficient; as the saying goes, love with hunger doesn't last.

Mi viaje desde la independencia laboral al compromiso por enseñar
Feliz vida en total armonía con el Universo. Después de unos meses ausente, regreso a mi ventanita en Hive. En este tiempo pasaron cosas, de las cuales les estaré contando. Hoy inicio hablando de como usando nuestras habilidades, conocimientos, experiencias y aventurándonos, podemos crearnos nuevas oportunidades, que tal vez nunca pensastes que fueran posible. En mi caso, ser mercadóloga, hablar un poco (o más o menos) de inglés, tener experiencia en mi área, mantenerme actualizada y sobre todo atreverme, me ha permitido trabajar por cuenta propia, con triunfos y fracasos, pero con crecimiento personal y nuevas ilusiones. Es cierto que por momentos es aterrador cuando el trabajo no llega y por consiguiente los ingresos tampoco, sumado además, a lo difícil de la situación socioeconómica (y política) de mi país.

Pero esta publicación no va de quejas ni de lo complejo de trabajar como Freelancer, sino de las oportunidades de vivir experiencias que nunca pensaste. Sin lugar a dudas una de las cosas que más me ha gustado hacer y que descubrí sin siquiera proponérmelo, ha sido enseñar. Pienso que todos nacemos con un kit de habilidades y talentos (o de supervivencia) que vamos descubriendo a lo largo de nuestra propia historia. Así ha sido para mí dar clases de inglés. Con pausas imprescindibles. Pero siempre el idioma, la enseñanza y yo nos reconciliamos, con la ayuda de participantes necesarios que algunos llaman amigos y otros ángeles. Mi amiga/hermana de la vida Carmen Rosa (de quien ya hablé en otra publicación) ha sido una de esas personas que han creído más en mis habilidades que yo misma.

Ella hace muchos años fue una de las primeras personas en alentarme a dar clases de inglés y hasta me consiguió mis primeros clientes. Una vez más Rosita lo volvió a hacer. Me insistió para que solicitara un puesto de profesora de inglés en un instituto universitario cercano a mi casa. Me insistió tanto, pero tanto que me hartó. Pero lo hice y conseguí el trabajo. Aunque es un empleo bajo contrato por dos semestres, aún siento que sigo siendo una freelancer ya que tengo horas asignadas según la disponibilidad que yo les presenté. Lo cierto es que estoy de luna de miel con esta nueva responsabilidad. De esta relación tengo lo mejor de los dos mundo. La seguridad del empleo constante (o al menos por un semestre más) y la libertad de tiempo y autonomía en el proceso de enseñanza. Love it! La experiencia ha sido muy gratificante.
