A few days ago, I was sitting in the passenger seat while my wife drove through Mexico City, and of course I had my camera on my lap. Without a fixed plan or destination, I simply wanted to capture moments, the typical light of the city, which is cut between the buildings in the afternoon as if it were part of the urban rhythm itself. All the shots were taken spontaneously—through the car window as we drove through the streets. No staging, no preparation, just observation, light, shadow, movement. I am fascinated by how even everyday things can look cinematic in this city: a man in backlight, a woman in the shadow of a lamppost, people immersed in their cell phones while the sunlight draws hard lines across their faces. The shadows here are not just darkness—they tell stories. For me, this series is an experiment: how much can you see without getting out of the car? How much atmosphere can you capture from a vehicle? These images have shown me that you don't always have to be in the middle of the action to feel it.
Vor einigen Tagen saß ich auf dem Beifahrersitz, während meine Frau durch Mexico City fuhr und hatte natürlich meine Kamera auf dem Schoß. Ohne festen Plan und ohne Ziel wollte ich einfach Momente festhalten, das typische Licht der Stadt, das am Nachmittag zwischen den Gebäuden zerschnitten wird, als wäre es selbst ein Teil des urbanen Rhythmus. Alle Aufnahmen entstanden spontan – durch das Autofenster, während wir durch die Straßen fuhren. Keine Inszenierung, keine Vorbereitung, nur Beobachtung, Licht, Schatten, Bewegung. Mich fasziniert, wie in dieser Stadt selbst das Alltägliche filmreif wirken kann: ein Mann im Gegenlicht, eine Frau im Schatten eines Laternenmasts, Menschen, die in ihr Handy vertieft sind, während das Sonnenlicht harte Linien über ihre Gesichter zieht. Die Schatten hier sind nicht nur Dunkelheit – sie erzählen Geschichten. Diese Serie ist für mich ein Experiment: Wie viel kann man sehen, ohne auszusteigen? Wie viel Atmosphäre kann man von einem Autos aus einfangen? Diese Bilder haben mir gezeigt: Man muss nicht immer mitten im Geschehen stehen, um es zu spüren.
