Turda Gorge, a natural wonder near the city of Turda, Romania
Hello travelers
After a short absence from here, today I come with a very interesting blog, Turda Gorge, a place created over millions of years.
So come with us and explore this wonder of nature.
The Turda Gorge is only a few kilometers from the city of Turda, and since we were there at the end of October 2023, invited to an event in Turda itself, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit this spectacular place.
Let's hit the road.
We came here by car, which we left in a very large parking lot. As far as I remember, the parking fee for one day was 10 lei/2 euros, and we also paid an entrance fee to the gorge at the very beginning of the route (there was a booth where we paid the fee).
Here we were also informed about the difficulty of the route and the equipment we needed to have, but don't worry, the route is of medium difficulty, approximately two kilometers long, and, as the person at the entrance to the gorge told us, we need to have equipment to protect us when crossing slippery areas.
Right next to the parking lot, there were a few souvenir stalls and some food stalls, which were very welcome after returning from the trail.
From the moment you enter the route, the area becomes increasingly spectacular, with suspension bridges over the river and narrow paths.
Before we take a few more steps, here is some information about Turda Gorge.
The Turda Gorges were formed over 150 million years as a result of the action of the Hășdate stream, a small tributary of the Arieș River, in the Jurassic limestones of the Trascău Mountains. Blending legend and reality, the Turda Gorges take your breath away with their majesty and richness. They cover an area of 170 hectares, are almost two kilometers long, and have a height difference of almost 350 meters. Rock walls up to 200 meters high, mysterious caves, rare plants, and hiking trails make Turda Gorge an impressive place. A smooth road winds through the forest-covered hills, which then give way to the rocky landscape. The complex reserve—geological, floristic, faunistic, archaeological—in which the area is included is home to over 60 caves. In this exceptional landscape, Turda Gorge is home to over 1,000 species of plants, animals, and butterflies, many of which are protected or rare. Butterfly species of the genera Eubleme, Phybalopterix, Heterogynis, Dysaukes, as well as plant species: rock garlic (Allium obliquum) – which can only be found here and in Asia, and the Dacian rowan (Sorbus dacica) complete the spectacle of nature.
Dear travelers, our journey through the Turda Gorge has come to an end. I hope you enjoyed the scenery here.
THE END!
