Picross and gaming is nothing new. The number puzzle game, that is not Sudoku, has made rounds in gaming for years. Whether featuring licensed characters such as Mario Picross (1995 for the Nintendo Game Boy) or not with WAY too many releases to bring up. Rayman Lum’o’Grams is more than just Picross with Rayman characters or color schemes. The fans behind this indie game are truly fans of Rayman and have put a ton of effort into this release.

By the Numbers Gaming

Picross is a very simple idea but can be challenging. Smaller puzzles are easier, obviously, but the larger ones that feature more detailed pictures can be excruciatingly tough. Unlike Sudoku, where the challenge comes from removing numbers, in Picross, the challenge comes from adding them to a column or row.

The numbers along the top and the left work together to tell you where you should place a block or not. As you progress the picture will start to come together and what move to make next becomes clearer. You may even be able to guess the picture before you complete it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_ckHEwb5F0

Adding some Rayman Aesthetics

The game screen features the board in the middle but the area around it is full of life. Some boards feature backgrounds with characters that are animated and doing their own thing. Others feature scenes from the Rayman games reminding gamers of simpler times in gaming.

According to Time Extension there will be over 350 puzzles in Rayman Lum’o’Grams, all sourced from the community as this game was being developed. This is truly a labor of love from gamers that simply enjoy Rayman.

How cool is that?

Grab the demo and enjoy six worlds with six bosses to defeat and 40 puzzles. The games featured run the gamut of the original Rayman, Rayman on SNES, Game Boy Color, Rayman 2, Rayman 3 and Rayman Raving Rabbids.
