Hace poco encontré de forma totalmente inesperada una gran escultura de Afrodita, diosa griega del amor y la belleza. En todos estos años jamás había visto esa bolsa envuelta en el ático de mi casa y fue sorprendente para mi porque Afrodita es mi diosa griega favorita, me encanta su libertad, rebeldía, la belleza y el romance que gira entorno a lo que ella es.
I recently, quite unexpectedly, found a large sculpture of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. In all these years, I had never seen that wrapped bag in the attic of my house, and it was surprising because Aphrodite is my favorite Greek goddess. I love her freedom, rebelliousness, the beauty, and the romance that surrounds her.
Le pregunte a mi mamá sobre ella y me dijo que era para una fuente que hace años se pensaba colocar en la casa, pero nunca se creó un lugar para eso así que dejaron lo que adornaría la fuente ahí. Así que en el momento que la encontré la haría mía, pintaría y buscaría un lugar en mi habitación para ella.
No es una escultura pequeña, mide 45 cm y como tal no tenia una base así que debía encontrar una para que no hubiera riesgo de que se callera, para mi suerte ese día de haberla hallado y que me seguía acompañando, buscando encontré un vidrio cuadrado perfecto para pegarla allí.
I asked my mom about it, and she told me it was for a fountain that had been planned for the house for years, but a place for it was never created, so they left the fountain's decoration there. So, the moment I found it, I would make it my own; I would paint it and find a place for it in my room.It's not a small sculpture; it measures 45 cm, and as such, it didn't have a base, so I had to find one so there wouldn't be a risk of it falling over. Luckily for me that day, I found it, and it was still with me. While searching, I found a perfect square glass to hang it there.
La pegue al vidrio ese mismo día y la deje toda la noche hasta el siguiente día y ya estaba lista para ser pintada. Estaba pensando si pintarla a color o con un efecto de escultura unicolor tal vez en tonos sepia. Me decidí por pintarla unicolor porque combinaría mejor con mi decoración así que comencé a pintarla y me llevo unas 4 manos de pintura para que quedara así.
I glued it to the glass that same day and left it overnight until the next day, and it was ready to be painted. I was wondering whether to paint it in color or with a solid-color sculpture effect, perhaps in sepia tones. I decided on painting it solid because it would match my decor better, so I started painting it, and it took me about four coats of paint to get it just right.
Iba a comenzar a aplicar los sombreados y el efecto sepia y nada más con los primeros trazos no me gusto, soy alguien que prefiere los tonos fríos así que al final la idea de colores sepia no me era para mí. Pinte de blanco esa zona y esta vez no con pintura sino con sobra para ojos gris azulada decidí que probaría pintarla ya que así sería más fácil hacer el efecto de sombras que con pintura.
I was going to start applying the shading and the sepia effect, but I didn't like it with just the first strokes. I prefer cool tones, so in the end, the idea of sepia colors wasn't for me. I painted that area white, and this time, not with paint, but with bluish-gray eyeshadow. I decided I'd try painting it since it would be easier to create the shadow effect than with paint.
Y así usando mi sombra de ojos fue como quedo el primer sombreado que le di, me gusto mucho la verdad y me convenció de seguir esta técnica. Como ven en la escultura afrodita esta parada entre las olas del mar y es que ella nació en él, es por ello que una de sus representaciones mas populares es de esta figura de ella en el mar.
And so, using my eyeshadow, that's how the first shading I applied turned out. I really liked it, and it convinced me to continue using this technique. As you can see in the sculpture, Aphrodite stands among the waves of the sea, and she was born there. That's why one of her most popular representations is this figure of her in the sea.
Como ultimo usaría sombra de ojos negra para acentuar ciertas zonas de la escultura hasta quedar así.
Finally, I would use black eyeshadow to accentuate certain areas of the sculpture until it looks like this.
Que mejor lugar para esta pieza de afrodita que mi peinadora, un lugar de belleza y cuidados a nuestra persona. No sin antes adornar su nuevo espacio. Tenia un candelabro de color negro ya algo desgastado así que lo pinte de dorado y adorne la base donde va la vela con piedras y algunas cosas marinas.
What better place for this Aphrodite piece than my dressing table, a place of beauty and personal care. But not before decorating its new space. I had a black candlestick that was a bit worn, so I painted it gold and decorated the candle holder with stones and some nautical elements.
Puse a sus pies una piedra de amatista y de cuarzo rosa que ya tenía. También coloque cerca un pequeño adorno de dos palomas enamoradas sobre una concha marina. También le compre una vela al candelabro para que se viera mas adornado todo y listo, así quedo el nuevo espacio de Afrodita.
I placed an amethyst and rose quartz stone I already had at her feet. I also placed a small ornament of two doves in love on a seashell nearby. I also bought a candle for the candelabra to make it look more ornate, and that's it: Aphrodite's new space.
