Hola a todos! ¿Como están? El día de hoy quiero compartir con ustedes este rediseño que le eh hecho a unos de mis vestidos inspirada en una de mis películas/libro/musical favorito: El fantasma de la ópera.
Hello everyone! How are you? Today I want to share with you this redesign I did on one of my dresses, inspired by one of my favorite movies/books/musicals: The Phantom of the Opera.
Este tipo de vestido pertenece a la moda conocida como egl, es un estilo japonés donde la vestimenta está inspirada en la época victoriana y tendencias similares, sin embargo, también se tiene variantes más modernas. El estilo hasta hace no mucho se conocía como lolita pero por connotaciones erróneas que la gente se tomaba con esa palabra se le ha empezado a llamar egl.
This type of dress belongs to the fashion known as egl. It's a Japanese style where clothing is inspired by the Victorian era and similar trends, although it also has more modern variations. Until recently, the style was known as Lolita, but due to the erroneous connotations people had with the word, it has begun to be called egl.
A mí me gusta mucho vestir así, aunque tengo muy pocas piezas ya que los vestidos no son tan accesibles, pero poco a poco me voy haciendo de más vestidos. Este es el primer vestido egl que tuve y aunque en su momento lo ame con el tiempo digamos que queme un poco el gusto por usarlo demasiado jajaja.
I really like dressing like this, although I only have a few pieces since dresses aren't that affordable, but little by little I'm getting more dresses. This is the first EGL dress I ever owned, and while I loved it at the time, over time I'll just say I've lost my taste for it a bit by wearing it too much, haha.
Cuando me decidí tomar el tiempo para trabajar en el vestido intentaba pensar en que podría hacerle de nuevo, en el egl los vestidos pueden estar inspirado en muchas cosas, en arte, en personajes, música, libros, es un estilo que llega a ser muy artístico en muchos casos y con el estampado de notas musicales me vino a la mente el fantasma de la ópera, de mis libros eh historia favoritos.
When I decided to take the time to work on the dress I was trying to think about what I could do new. At egl, dresses can be inspired by many things: art, characters, music, books. It's a style that can be very artistic in many cases, and with the musical note print, the Phantom of the Opera came to mind, one of my favorite history books.

Ya decidida la inspiración me puse a diseñar, siempre me han gustado los vestidos egl con diseños pintados así que para esto usaría otra prenda que hice. Esta fue una ropa que hice completamente desde cero, sacando patrones y cociendo a mano, ¿por que me decidí a cortarla? Bueno la tela con la que la hice no es ideal, raspa mucho en la piel directamente este tipo de tela, por eso decidí usar su tela gris para la base de lo que quería hacer.
Once I decided on the inspiration, I started designing. I've always loved EGL dresses with painted designs, so for this one, I used another garment I made. This was an outfit I made completely from scratch, taking patterns and sewing by hand. Why did I decide to cut it? Well, the fabric I used isn't ideal; this type of fabric is very scratchy on the skin, so I decided to use their gray fabric for the base of what I wanted to make.
Primero pensé en hacer una especie de corset desmontable pero la idea es usar el vestido con otro diseño así que haría solo el frente para cocerlo directamente al vestido. Luego de sacar las medidas y el molde de la parte delantera uní y coci las parte para después comenzar con trazar líneas guías para el dibujo.
At first, I thought about making a sort of detachable corset, but the idea was to use the dress with another design, so I would only make the front and sew it directly onto the dress. After taking the measurements and the pattern for the front, I joined and sewed the parts together and then began drawing guidelines for the design.
Cabe resaltar que todo lo hice pensando en cosas que ya tengo a mano. De vez en cuando hago ropa para mi o personalizo ropa que ya tengo, así que material tengo. Para pintar en tela se debe colocar una capa de blanco como base para que luego los colores con los que pintes se vean del color que son ya que si no se combinara con el color de la tela.
It's worth noting that I did everything with things I already have on hand in mind. I occasionally make clothes for myself or customize ones I already own, so I have plenty of materials. To paint on fabric, you should use a layer of white as a base so that the colors you paint with will show through, otherwise they'll blend with the fabric.
Mi dibujo es una ilustración de Erick (así es como se llama el fantasma de la ópera) dentro de su hogar bajo la ópera de Garnier sobre su lago subterráneo. Erick en el dibujo es rubio porque, aunque la mayoría y se describe como alguien de cabello oscuro mi versión favorita es interpretada por el actor Charles Dance el cual es rubio por lo que su versión en la película es rubio.
My drawing is an illustration of Erick (the Phantom of the Opera's name) inside his home beneath the Garnier Opera House, overlooking his underground lake. Erick in the drawing is blond because, although most people describe him as dark-haired, my favorite version is played by actor Charles Dance, who is blond, so his version in the movie is blond.
Una vez completamente seco el dibujo en la tela, lo coci al vestido y quedo así, ya aquí me encantaba como se miraba, lo siguiente seria la decoración ya que mi diseño lleva como una especie de marco, con telas y rosas. No me juzguen, pero para esto usaría a mi mejor amigo, el silicón caliente, ya lo que usado para otras prendas y queda bastante bien, a veces soy un poco perezosa para cocer tanto lo admito, esta técnica nunca me ha dejado mal jajaja.
Once the design was completely dry on the fabric, I sewed it onto the dress and it looked like this. I loved how it looked. Next up was the decoration, since my design had a sort of frame, with fabrics and roses. Don't judge me, but for this I would use my best friend, hot silicone. I've used it for other garments and it turns out pretty well. Sometimes I'm a bit lazy when it comes to sewing so much, I admit it; this technique has never let me down, hahaha.
Procedí a cortar y acomodar las telas alrededor hasta que quedaran como quería. Cortando cintas de telas hice rosas muy fáciles y rápidas para el vestido, como toque final coci una tira de esferas doradas que me serviría como adorno y así quedo el vestido.
I proceeded to cut and arrange the fabrics around the edges until they were just the way I wanted them. By cutting fabric ribbons, I made very quick and easy roses for the dress. As a finishing touch, I sewed a strip of golden spheres to serve as decoration, and that's how the dress turned out.
Pero los complemento para un buen coordinado egl no podían faltar así que le hice algunos accesorios. Lo primero sería un moño para el cuello con diseño de piano ya que el personaje de Erick toca el piano y el órgano (referencias señores). Antes tenía uno que lo compre justamente junto a este vestido, pero una vez lo preste y me lo perdieron, pero aquí sabemos hacer de todo así que con tela negra y blanca arme mi forma para el lazo, ya eh hecho lazos antes así que no tuve que buscar o tardar mucho. Con pintura negra para tela hice el diseño de las teclas del piano en la parte blanca, unas 2 capas de pintura y listo, esperé a que secara muy bien para terminar mi lazo y cocerlo a la cinta para ponérmelo en el cuello.
But the accessories for a well-coordinated EGL couldn't be missing, so I made some accessories. The first was a piano-themed neck bow, since Erick's character plays the piano and the organ (references, gentlemen). I used to have one that I bought right along with this dress, but I once lent it and lost it. But here we know how to do everything, so with black and white fabric, I made my shape for the bow. I've made bows before, so I didn't have to search or spend too much time. With black fabric paint, I made the piano key design on the white part. I applied about two coats of paint, and that was it. I waited for it to dry completely to finish my bow and sew it to the ribbon to put it around my neck.
Y por último el cintillo, aquí estamos reciclando todo, telas, prendas, en este caso tenía este cintillo que también había decorado yo misma pero ya hacen tantos años que ya el encaje y la cinta se veían gastados así que usaría su base para un nuevo diseño. Con más tela que quedo cuando corté el vestido hice un lazo y unas cintas que enrollaría alrededor del cintillo además de hacer un lazo. Cuando me lo coloque me di cuenta que el lazo quedo muy pequeño y se supone que cubría bien el ancho del cintillo, pero no, quedaba muy en el medio y pequeño, hacia que se viera raro, así que como yo quiera que recorriera en largo del cintillo, así como en el vestido hice rosas rojas, blancas y hojas de tela y así quedo.
And finally, the headband. Here we're recycling everything: fabrics and garments. In this case, I had this headband that I had also decorated myself, but it's been so many years that the lace and ribbon were looking worn, so I was going to use the base for a new design. With some leftover fabric from when I cut the dress, I made a bow and some ribbons that I would wrap around the headband in addition to making a bow. When I put it on, I realized that the bow was too small, and it was supposed to cover the width of the headband well, but no, it was too small and in the middle, which made it look strange. So, however I wanted it to run the length of the headband, just like on the dress, I made red and white roses and fabric leaves, and that's how it turned out.
Y listo, así se ve el resultado final, el vestido junto a todos sus accesorios. La moda egl puede ser muy sencilla a muy extravagante, lo digo porque si no conocen el estilo puede que el tocado y lo demás se les haga mucho, pero la verdad se usa mucho más que esto. Espero que les haya gustado, a mí me ha encantado y estoy muy feliz de renovar este vestido inspirado en uno de mis libros favoritos.
And that's it, this is the final result: the dress with all its accessories. EGL fashion can be very simple or very extravagant. I say this because if you're not familiar with the style, the headpiece and the rest might seem overwhelming, but the truth is, it's used much more than this. I hope you like it; I loved it, and I'm very happy to remake this dress inspired by one of my favorite books.
