This is my post on #freewriters2827 #dailyprompt reject it hosted by @marinnewest's. Ada stood in front of the mirror, holding the glossy brochure in her hands. The job offer inside promised everything she thought she wanted—prestige, a big salary, the kind of office people posted about online. Yet her reflection didn’t look happy; it looked trapped. For weeks, everyone had told her this was the “smart choice.” “You’d be a fool to turn it down,” her uncle had said. Friends sent congratulatory messages, assuming her mind was made up. But Ada’s chest felt heavier each time she pictured herself in that office, wearing a smile that didn’t belong to her. Late that night, she sat on her balcony, breathing in the warm night air. She thought about her small art studio—the paint-splattered apron, the unfinished canvases, the joy of creating something that didn’t have to please anyone but her. The job offer promised stability, but the studio promised life. The next morning, she walked into the corporate building. The recruiter’s eyes lit up, ready for a handshake. Ada placed the brochure on the table and said softly, “Thank you, but I’ll have to reject it.” The words felt lighter than she expected—like setting down a burden she didn’t realize she’d been carrying. Outside, the city buzzed as always, but Ada walked away smiling. She didn’t know exactly what tomorrow would bring, but she knew it would be hers. Sometimes the best yes you can give yourself begins with the courage to reject what’s not meant for you.
