This is my post on #freewriters2891 #dailyprompt rib hosted by @marinnewest's. In the heart of Uyo, where the aroma of afang soup mingled with the honks of okadas, Ebong wandered the Ibom Plaza market. A young engineer from Lagos, he had returned home for a family wedding, feeling incomplete, like a puzzle missing its key piece. His grandmother often teased him, "Ebong, when will you find your rib? The one God crafted just for you?" One rainy afternoon, as thunder rumbled over the palm-fringed streets, Ebong sought shelter under a vendor's awning. There, sorting fresh yams, was Imabong—a vibrant teacher with eyes like polished onyx and a laugh that cut through the downpour. She handed him a plastic cover, smiling. "Stranger, you look lost in this storm." They talked as the rain eased. Imabong shared stories of Uyo's hidden gems: the serene Ibeno Beach, the spicy goat meat at local spots. Ebong confessed his urban loneliness, how he yearned for someone who fit perfectly, like Adam's rib becoming Eve. Imabong blushed, her name meaning "my love" in Ibibio, a sign perhaps. Days blurred into dates—strolls along Wellington Bassey Way, shared plates of pounded yam at hidden eateries. Ebong discovered Imabong's passion for education matched his drive for innovation. She challenged his views, teased his city accent, yet completed him. One evening at Unity Park, under a starlit sky, Ebong knelt. "Imabong, you're my rib—the missing part that makes me whole." Tears glistened as she nodded, their love blooming like Uyo's eternal green. In that vibrant city, two souls united, proving destiny weaves through rain and roots.
